About OpenTrain
OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect people who want flexible, remote work with projects that teach AI systems — from writing and annotation to conversational evaluation.
This role is posted through the OpenTrain network and is part of the fast-growing AI training industry where contributors shape how models understand and use language.
Why AI Training Work Matters
AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback) is the human side of building modern AI. People prepare examples and craft responses that help LLMs learn to speak naturally and reliably.
These projects are remote and flexible, often suitable as part-time work. Contributors gain hands-on experience at the cutting edge of language technology and directly influence real chatbot behavior.
The Role — What This Job Is
We are hiring a Cantonese Creative Writer on a remote contract basis to generate and refine dialogue used to train AI chatbots. You will write authentic, culturally relevant Cantonese responses from prompts and improve AI-generated texts for clarity, tone, and accuracy.
Work is part-time contractor work. Pay is USD 19 per hour. Candidates should be available for a minimum of 10 hours per week, with a preferred commitment of 20+ hours per week. This role is open worldwide and is completed remotely.
- Role type: Contractor, Part-time
- Rate: $19 USD per hour
- Hours: Minimum 10 hrs/week; preferred 20+ hrs/week
- Work location: Remote, worldwide
What You'll Do
Your primary tasks are creative writing and text refinement to produce high-quality Cantonese conversational data used for supervised fine-tuning and prompt-response tasks.
Projects will include drafting prompt responses, answering questions in Cantonese, and improving AI outputs to match natural, regionally appropriate Cantonese usage.
- Generate original Cantonese responses to given prompts (prompt-response writing, SFT-style)
- Rewrite and edit AI-generated Cantonese text for naturalness and cultural relevance
- Produce short-form content such as character descriptions, professional emails, and persuasive messages in Cantonese
- Follow style and quality guidelines provided by the project
Requirements
This listing preserves the hiring criteria exactly as provided: strong Cantonese writing skills and experience on data-labeling/writing tasks are important.
We require a strong command of written Cantonese, attention to grammar and tone, and the ability to edit and proofread carefully. Basic English understanding is needed to follow instructions and communicate with the team.
- Preferred: 5+ years creative or content writing experience in Cantonese (preferred but not strictly required)
- Preferred: prior writing experience on platforms such as OpenTrain, OpenTrain, Appen, OpenTrain.tech or similar (writing tasks specifically)
- Portfolio preferred: links or descriptions of published Cantonese works are requested
- Basic English reading comprehension
- Editing and proofreading skills; familiarity with ChatGPT or other AI chatbot tools is an advantage
Interview & Test Details
During the interview, you will be asked about your years/months of experience writing on data-labeling platforms, your portfolio, and your highest level of education. Note that experience in rating/evaluation is less relevant than actual writing experience.
At the end of the interview, applicants will complete a short live test. Questions will be provided in English and Cantonese, but responses must be written in Cantonese. Performance on this test is a crucial part of the qualification score.
- Interviewer will ask how many years/months you have writing on platforms like OpenTrain, OpenTrain, Appen, etc.
- Prepare to provide a portfolio link or descriptions of published Cantonese works
- Be ready to state your highest level of education
- Final written test must be answered in Cantonese and will influence hiring decisions
