About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Specialists prepare, review, and evaluate examples that help models understand information, follow instructions, and produce more accurate reasoning.

For chemistry experts, this can include contributing experimental knowledge, assessing technical explanations, documenting findings, and helping AI systems handle complex chemical concepts. No prior AI experience is required for this role.

  • Work remotely with a computer and an internet connection.
  • Use your professional knowledge to influence cutting-edge AI development.
  • Choose a flexible workload that fits around other commitments.

The Role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Chemistry AI Training Specialist to provide high-quality chemical knowledge and experimental insight for next-generation AI systems. You will apply your expertise in chemical analysis, laboratory practice, reactions, synthesis, and separation techniques to support AI training datasets and reasoning capabilities.

This is a remote contract position with a flexible schedule of 20 or more hours per week. Hours are to be determined with the project, and compensation is $70-$90 USD per hour.

  • Employment type: Part-time contractor
  • Work arrangement: Remote
  • Workload: 20+ hours per week
  • Rate: $70-$90 USD per hour
  • Primary language: English

What You'll Do

You will combine practical laboratory experience with clear technical communication to help improve AI systems. The work involves analyzing experimental information, evaluating outcomes, and translating chemistry concepts for stakeholders who may not have specialist training.

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses and experiments.
  • Support product development, quality control, or process optimization activities.
  • Design and interpret complex laboratory experiments involving reactions, synthesis, and separation techniques.
  • Document laboratory methodologies, data, and findings clearly and accurately.
  • Critically evaluate experimental outcomes and propose improvements.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders and explain chemistry concepts to non-specialist audiences.
  • Contribute domain-specific expertise to improve AI model training and reasoning.

Requirements

This role is listed at the entry level for AI training, meaning prior experience working with AI systems is not required. However, it requires substantial chemistry expertise and hands-on laboratory experience. Your chemistry knowledge is the primary qualification.

  • Advanced degree in Chemistry or a closely related field, with a PhD preferred.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with wet lab techniques, experimental design, and instrumentation.
  • Deep understanding of chemical reactions, analytical chemistry, and laboratory best practices.
  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex chemistry concepts to non-specialists.

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is suited to chemistry specialists who want to apply their scientific judgment beyond traditional laboratory settings. It may be a strong fit if you enjoy interpreting evidence, explaining technical ideas, assessing experimental results, and improving the quality of complex information.

You do not need previous AI training experience. The role is designed for candidates whose advanced chemistry education and practical laboratory background can provide meaningful guidance for AI development.

  • Chemists with advanced academic training.
  • Laboratory professionals experienced with wet lab work and instrumentation.
  • Researchers familiar with experimental design and chemical analysis.
  • Clear communicators who can make technical concepts accessible.
  • Problem-solvers interested in shaping how AI handles chemistry.

How to Apply

Create a free OpenTrain account, complete your profile, and apply through the platform. Highlight your chemistry education, laboratory methods, instrumentation experience, experimental design work, and ability to communicate technical findings.

If selected, you will work as a remote contractor on a flexible project schedule. Specific hours are determined with the project, with an expected workload of at least 20 hours per week.

  • Set up your free OpenTrain profile.
  • Showcase your chemistry qualifications and hands-on experience.
  • Apply in minutes for this remote contract opportunity.
  • Discuss project scheduling and working hours after selection.
