The Role
OpenTrain is seeking a Chemical Engineer AI Evaluation Specialist to review advanced AI-generated chemical engineering content. You will assess technical accuracy, logical soundness, completeness, clarity, assumptions, unit consistency, safety considerations, and process reasoning.
The work spans material and energy balances, thermodynamics, unit operations, separations, process control, scale-up, and plant troubleshooting. You will also refine prompts, responses, explanations, and step-by-step engineering solutions so they better reflect sound chemical engineering judgment.

What You'll Do
You will challenge AI systems with realistic calculations, scenarios, and process-informed reasoning tasks, then document precise feedback on the quality of their outputs. Your reviews will help improve both technical performance and responsible communication.
Evaluate AI-generated responses for technical accuracy and completeness across chemical engineering topics
Review and refine prompts, model responses, explanations, and engineering solutions
Identify factual errors, flawed assumptions, missing constraints, unsafe recommendations, unit mistakes, consistency errors, and incomplete reasoning
Assess balances, phase behavior, thermodynamic property use, unit operations, separations logic, and process control
Evaluate process safety, scale-up, operability, and troubleshooting of plant scenarios
Help AI explain assumptions, limitations, calculations, and professional judgment clearly
Recognize when escalation to a licensed engineer or site expert is appropriate
Required Qualifications
This role requires substantial professional chemical engineering experience and the ability to critique technical content with precision. Deep chemical engineering expertise is the primary requirement; prior AI evaluation experience is valuable but not essential.
At least 4 years of professional chemical engineering experience
Hands-on experience in process design, plant or operations engineering, process safety, scale-up, manufacturing, utilities, EHS, quality, R&D, or controls and automation interfaces
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field
Strong knowledge of material and energy balances, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, reaction engineering, separations, unit operations, and process control
Comfort with engineering calculations, assumptions, constraints, uncertainty, safety factors, and defensible reasoning
Ability to identify flawed assumptions, missing constraints, and unsafe technical recommendations
Preferred Experience
Advanced credentials and familiarity with standard chemical engineering documentation and process tools will strengthen your ability to evaluate complex model outputs.
Master's degree, doctorate, Professional Engineer license, or Chartered status strongly preferred
Prior AI data training, annotation, red-teaming, or evaluation of AI-generated technical content
Familiarity with PFDs and P&IDs
Experience with Aspen Plus, HYSYS, or CHEMCAD
Knowledge of process datasheets, PSM documentation, HAZOP, LOPA, or SOPs
