About OpenTrain

OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this remote project. OpenTrain helps people build careers in AI training and data labeling by connecting real-world expertise with projects that shape how modern AI systems learn and perform.

  • Remote contractor opportunity
  • Compensation of $40-$100 per hour
  • Expected project duration of 3 to 6 months
  • Apply without prior AI experience

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Specialists provide examples, evaluations, technical judgments, and feedback that help AI models reason more accurately and produce higher-quality results.

In this project, your mechanical engineering and parametric CAD expertise will support high-quality 3D sensor labeling, text generation, evaluation, and review tasks. Your professional judgment matters more than prior experience in AI.

  • Work on cutting-edge AI development
  • Apply practical CAD and manufacturing knowledge
  • Help improve how AI systems understand technical information

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking an Autodesk Fusion 360 Specialist with strong experience in advanced parametric CAD modeling. The project focuses on creating, editing, auditing, and documenting mechanical parts and assemblies, with FreeCAD as the primary software environment.

Strong 3D parametric CAD experience in Autodesk Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or Inventor can transfer directly to the work. Prior FreeCAD experience is ideal, but the central requirement is deep expertise in parametric modeling and mechanical design.

  • Role type: Contractor
  • Location: Remote and worldwide
  • Primary focus: Mechanical engineering and parametric CAD modeling
  • Fluent English proficiency required

What You'll Do

You will create and review accurate, robust CAD work from detailed written briefs while clearly documenting design decisions. You will also contribute to evaluation and text-generation activities connected to AI model training.

  • Develop fully parametric 3D models of mechanical parts and assemblies
  • Build robust sketches, constraints, and feature trees
  • Edit existing parametric CAD models as requirements change
  • Audit models for dimensional accuracy, tolerance application, and design intent
  • Identify gaps or deviations in CAD models and specifications
  • Apply design-for-manufacturability knowledge to production-oriented designs
  • Use knowledge of injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, and casting or forging
  • Support N 3D sensor labeling workflows
  • Complete evaluation rating and text generation tasks
  • Communicate design rationale, feedback, and technical insights clearly
  • Provide consistent CAD data and technical documentation for AI training

Required Expertise

The project is listed at an entry-level classification, while the assignment requirements include substantial applied CAD and manufacturing expertise. Model editing tasks call for 4 or more years of applied experience, and complex model creation assignments call for 10 or more years.

  • Autodesk Fusion 360
  • Parametric CAD modeling
  • Mechanical assembly modeling
  • GD&T using ASME Y14.5 or equivalent
  • Design for manufacturability
  • CAD model auditing
  • Technical documentation
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving
  • Manufacturing process knowledge across 2 to 3 relevant processes
  • Assembly-level modeling experience, not only single-part modeling

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

Candidates with experience across multiple parametric CAD platforms, reverse-engineering workflows, or CAD automation may be especially well suited to the project. The required and preferred skill set includes the following tools and capabilities.

  • FreeCAD, SolidWorks, or Inventor
  • Reverse engineering, including scan-to-CAD and point-cloud conversion
  • CAD automation and scripting
  • Python, iLogic, NX Open, or VBA
  • Experience with injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, casting, or forging
  • Strong design rationale communication
  • Fluent English
