About Audio AI Training

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Speech and language systems learn from audio recordings and carefully prepared transcripts, including examples that capture accents, dialects, natural pauses, interruptions, and challenging sound conditions.

As an audio transcription and alignment specialist, you will help create the precise training data that enables AI systems to better understand human speech.

The Role

OpenTrain AI is recruiting an Audio Transcription and Alignment Specialist to refine word-level transcripts and match transcript text and segment boundaries to spoken audio. You will work in a specialized web-based editor, applying detailed rules while handling nuanced and difficult speech cases.

This is a fully remote contractor position for talent located in the United States. The role is listed as entry level and is designed for people who can work independently and maintain careful, consistent quality.

  • Pay range: $10 to $35 per hour
  • Location: United States
  • Work arrangement: Fully remote contract role
  • Schedule: Flexible, with a stated commitment of 10 to 40 hours per week
  • Structured time requirement: 20 or more hours per week
  • Employment type: Contractor and part time

What You’ll Do

You will combine accurate transcription judgment with detailed audio annotation. The work requires close listening, precise editing, and consistent application of transcription conventions across audio tasks.

  • Review and correct word-level transcripts for accuracy, spelling, grammar, and style-guide compliance.
  • Edit transcript text and timing together in a specialized web-based audio labeling tool.
  • Align word and segment boundaries to spoken recordings with millisecond-level precision.
  • Apply rule-based guidelines consistently across assigned audio tasks.
  • Resolve overlapping speech, filler words, false starts, accents, dialects, background noise, and unclear recordings.
  • Maintain high accuracy and reliable turnaround times while working independently and asynchronously.

Requirements and Helpful Experience

Native or near-native English fluency and excellent listening comprehension are required. You should be able to distinguish speech nuances, accents, dialects, mumbled words, and overlapping speakers while following strict transcription style guides.

Previous experience is not required, but relevant experience can help you succeed. Professional transcription, closed captioning, court reporting, linguistics, phonetics, audio data annotation, speech-to-text quality assurance, or audio post-production are useful backgrounds.

  • Native or near-native English listening comprehension
  • Accurate transcription, spelling, grammar, and style-guide application
  • Ability to align word and segment timing to spoken audio precisely
  • Sound judgment when reviewing difficult or unclear speech
  • Strong attention to detail and patience with precise timing work
  • Ability to learn specialized web-based editing tools
  • Independent reliability under task-based deadlines
  • Fast and accurate typing is helpful
  • Experience with waveform, subtitle, or caption tools such as Praat, ELAN, or Subtitle Edit is useful
