About AI training and this work
AI training (also called data labeling or annotation) is the human side of building modern models: people prepare examples, check outputs, and teach systems to understand language and speech.
Audio transcription roles are ideal for anyone who likes focused, detail-oriented tasks. This is remote, flexible work that helps determine how voice and speech models handle real-world language.
The role — key facts
You will transcribe and label short English audio clips, identify target words, and rate audio quality and pronunciation variations according to project instructions.
Position type: Contract, part-time (OpenTrain AI hiring and contracting organization).
Pay: $15.00 USD per hour (hourly, PAY_PER_HOUR).
Hours: Less than 20 hours/week; must commit at least 1 hour/day, Monday–Friday, for the next 1+ year.
Experience level: Entry level — prior transcription or annotation experience preferred but not required.
Data type: Audio (English recordings); label type: text generation (transcription).
Location: Native English speakers based in the USA or Canada (remote).
What you'll do day to day
Listen to short audio clips and produce accurate verbatim transcriptions of spoken content.
Identify and mark target words specified by the project instructions.
Assess audio quality and flag clips that are noisy, unintelligible, or outside scope.
Recognize variations in pronunciation and minor mispronunciations and label them per guidelines.
Follow detailed annotation rules to ensure consistent, high-quality labels across the dataset.
Requirements
Native English speaker living in the USA or Canada.
Strong listening and transcription skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
Experience in audio transcription, linguistic annotation, or data labeling is preferred but not required.
Ability to follow detailed instructions and labeling guidelines precisely.
Familiarity with spoken language variations and minor mispronunciations.
Reliable internet connection and ability to work with audio files.
Availability to commit at least 1 hour per day, Monday–Friday, for the next 1+ year.
Who should apply
Apply if you enjoy focused, repetitive tasks, have excellent listening skills, and want steady, remote part-time work that contributes directly to real AI systems.
This role is a good fit for students, freelancers, or anyone looking for flexible hours and practical experience in AI data work.
