About Audio AI Training

Audio training work helps AI models recognize spoken words and interpret how people communicate. In this project, your careful listening and writing will help capture both the content of speech and the emotional delivery behind it.

  • Listen to real-world audio recordings
  • Identify meaningful emotional expression in speech
  • Create accurate transcriptions for AI training data
  • Evaluate tone, intensity, and emotional context

The Role

As an Audio Segmentation and Transcription Specialist, you will work with one- to two-minute audio recordings. You will locate approximately 10- to 12-second clips in which speakers show strong emotional expression, then transcribe and assess those clips using the project's provided guidelines and scales.

The instructions are intentionally broad, so the work requires thoughtful judgment. You will distinguish expressive speech from neutral or low-arousal content and describe the emotional dynamics, tone, intensity, and key themes you hear.

  • Role type: Part-time contractor
  • Language: English
  • Subject matter: Real-world audio recordings
  • Data type: Audio
  • Workload: Less than 20 hours per week

What You’ll Do

You will review short recordings, select relevant emotionally expressive segments, and produce two written versions for each selected clip: a detailed transcription and a concise summary. Your work should capture spoken content accurately while reflecting important nuances in tone and emotional delivery.

You will also complete a sample task during the interview process. The sample asks you to transcribe the first 10 seconds of a provided Good Will Hunting YouTube clip, including the spoken words and emotional delivery.

  • Listen to one- to two-minute recordings
  • Find 10- to 12-second clips with strong emotional expression
  • Avoid neutral or low-arousal segments
  • Rate emotional valence as positive or negative
  • Rate emotional arousal, or intensity, using provided Likert scales
  • Write a detailed transcription and a brief summary
  • Note tone, pauses, pitch changes, intensity, and emotional cues
  • Send the completed sample transcription before the interview is concluded

Requirements and Qualifications

This role is suited to careful English writers and attentive listeners who can make consistent judgment calls when instructions leave room for interpretation. Experience with transcription, labeling, or emotion tagging is helpful but not required for entry-level applicants.

  • Excellent English writing and transcription skills
  • Strong attention to detail when identifying emotional nuances
  • Ability to assess positive or negative valence and emotional intensity
  • Strong listening skills for spoken words and emotional cues
  • Ability to create both detailed and concise transcriptions
  • Ability to work independently under broad instructions
  • Familiarity with audio content and extracting relevant segments
  • Comfort working with experimental data and changing instructions
  • Experience with audio transcription or annotation is helpful
  • Experience with labeling or emotion tagging is a plus

Sample Task Details

At the end of the interview, you will be asked to complete a sample transcription using the first 10 seconds of this Good Will Hunting clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SxE_NfUX6w

For the long transcription, write the dialogue verbatim and capture the speaker's emotional delivery. Include relevant details such as tone, pauses, pitch changes, and apparent emotion. If useful, you may describe the speaker based on their voice, such as noting that a speaker talks softly. Focus on speech and emotional delivery rather than background sounds or music.

  • Review the provided video clip
  • Transcribe every spoken word in the first 10 seconds
  • Include meaningful vocal and emotional cues
  • Describe apparent speaker characteristics only when relevant
  • Exclude background sounds and music from the transcription
  • Submit the sample response in the interview before completion
