About AI Training and Multimodal Data

AI training is the human work behind artificial intelligence. People review, classify, translate, and improve examples so AI systems can better understand images, text, languages, and the cultural context connecting them.

In this project, your reviews will support a multimodal benchmark focused on African cultural content, including cuisine, attire, art, architecture, and festivals.

The Role

As an African-English Multilingual Cultural Image-Text Annotator, you will validate and refine existing image-text data for an academic research project. Raw data has already been collected, and your role is to check whether each sample accurately represents its claimed country and category.

Annotation takes place on an in-house, browser-based platform with no installation required. A short onboarding process and written guidelines will be provided. Each sample is estimated to take 2 to 4 minutes.

• Per-sample rate: $0.29 USD
• Pilot volume: 50 samples per language
• Full project volume: up to 1,000 to 2,000 samples per language
• Project duration: approximately 6 to 8 weeks
• Availability requested for 1 to 3 months
• Flexible hours and less than 20 hours per week
• Part-time contractor engagement

What You'll Do

You will review image and text pairs for cultural, linguistic, and labeling accuracy. Your work will involve both classification and text generation, including caption correction, rewriting, and translation between your native language and English.

• Verify that the image and text represent the claimed country and category
• Correct or rewrite captions in your native language and in English
• Add brief cultural context where relevant
• Flag mislabeled samples
• Flag low-quality samples
• Identify and flag duplicate samples
• Review image-text data using the internal browser-based tool

Languages and Cultural Coverage

Native or near-native speakers are needed in any of the listed languages. Multilingual annotators are welcome. For Portuguese, speakers from Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, and other Lusophone African communities are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

This role is designed for native African speakers with strong cultural familiarity with the relevant country or region. You should be comfortable reviewing nuanced cultural representations and communicating corrections clearly in English and your target language.
