The Role
OpenTrain is seeking an Accounting Reconciliation AI Task Author to create expert-level financial scenarios used to train and evaluate advanced AI agents. You will translate enterprise accounting concepts into numerically rigorous, objectively scorable tasks involving reconciliation, revenue recognition, payment matching, and margin analysis.
This is a remote, flexible contract opportunity for finance professionals located in South Africa. The expected commitment is 20 or more hours per week, with compensation of $60-$120 per hour.

What You’ll Do
You will design realistic accounting tasks that require careful analysis, multi-step calculations, and clearly verifiable conclusions. Each task must be challenging enough to test an AI agent while remaining objectively gradable.
Author prompts for matching payments to invoices.
Create reconciliation tasks comparing billing with recognized revenue.
Prepare financial data, documents, and system states that reflect realistic accounting situations.
Solve each task yourself to validate calculations, reconciled balances, and rubric accuracy.
Adjust data complexity, source-document ambiguity, and reasoning requirements to calibrate difficulty.
Review and correct AI-drafted prompts or rubrics when provided.
Required Qualifications
You should have hands-on experience as an accountant, finance analyst, or closely related finance professional. Strong numerical reasoning and the ability to work through multi-step reconciliation problems are essential.
You must be comfortable defining correctness criteria that can be checked reliably, including exact figures, account balances, and explanations of variances.
Hands-on accounting or finance analyst experience involving multi-step reconciliation work
Knowledge of revenue recognition principles, matching rules, and standard accounting workflows
Strong numerical reasoning and careful attention to calculation accuracy
Ability to define exact, verifiable outcomes and variance explanations
Comfort working with financial documents, spreadsheets, and accounting-system outputs
Willingness to test and refine tasks until they are appropriately difficult and reliably gradable
Helpful Background
The following experience is useful but not required: work in mining, manufacturing, or enterprise B2B finance; familiarity with ERP or accounting platforms; and professional experience in audit, financial controls, revenue assurance, or IFRS.
