About AI training and why it matters
AI training (data labeling/annotation/human feedback) is how modern models learn from human examples and judgments. Contributors annotate documents, rate outputs, and write evaluations that directly shape how AI systems behave.
This work is remote, flexible, and accessible: many projects require professional judgment or domain expertise rather than software engineering experience, letting you work part time while influencing state-of-the-art systems.
Work remotely and set hours that fit your schedule.
Contributors help create audit-ready, trustworthy AI behavior by providing clear, reproducible judgments.
The role
OpenTrain is hiring an Accounting AI Evaluation Expert to review and score accounting deliverables produced by humans and AI. You will apply precise grading criteria across reconciliations, month-end close packages, financial statements, disclosures, workpapers, and technical memos, and write clear justifications for every score.
Contractor, part-time role — 20+ hours per week.
Pay range: $130–$160 USD per hour (pay-per-hour).
Work is document-focused: evaluate accounting documents and written outputs.
What you'll do
You will design and apply grading rubrics, score samples against those rubrics, and produce written rationales that make each judgment reproducible and calibratable across reviewers. Senior reviewers will provide structured feedback and you will refine your approach accordingly.

Score reconciliations, close packages, financial statements, disclosures, workpapers, and technical memos.
Write clear, defensible rationales explaining each score and professional judgment.
Collaborate with senior reviewers to calibrate scoring and revise rubrics.
Requirements
We require substantial accounting experience and domain proficiency to ensure consistent, defensible evaluations. The role demands strong written communication so judgments can be reproduced by other reviewers.
5+ years of professional accounting experience in audit, assurance, advisory, or senior accounting roles.
Strong command of US GAAP, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
Ability to score accounting work against precise criteria and produce clear written explanations.
CPA or equivalent certification strongly preferred.
Experience with AI training, evaluation, or human-data projects is a plus.
Who should apply
Apply if you have deep practical accounting experience and enjoy explaining professional judgment in writing. This role suits senior accounting professionals, former auditors, or technical accounting specialists who want flexible, high-impact remote work evaluating AI outputs.
Experienced auditors, senior accountants, and technical accounting advisors.
Professionals who can consistently apply US GAAP and produce audit-ready rationale.
Those seeking a part-time contractor role with significant hourly compensation.
How the work is structured
Assignments are document-based and typically involve reviewing many short samples each day. You will use OpenTrain’s evaluation workflows to apply rubrics and submit written rationales. Senior reviewers will provide feedback to keep scoring calibrated across the reviewer pool.
Label types: evaluation/rating and text generation (written rationales).
Data type: documents (workpapers, memos, statements).
Language: English required; role is open worldwide to qualified applicants.
