About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building modern artificial intelligence. Specialists create examples, review model outputs, and provide expert feedback so AI systems can perform more accurately in professional settings.

In this role, your accounting judgment will help shape how AI systems understand financial workflows, standards-based decisions, and the practical reasoning accountants use every day.

  • Contribute to cutting-edge AI development through expert review and feedback
  • Flexible project work can fit around other professional or personal commitments
  • Build experience in a fast-growing technology field

The Role

OpenTrain is recruiting an Accounting AI Training Expert to develop training data that enables AI systems to reason about real accounting work. You will translate professional accounting workflows, judgments, and decisions into realistic scenarios and structured examples, then assess AI-generated accounting outputs for accuracy, standards compliance, and professional soundness.

Expertise across audit, tax, financial reporting, bookkeeping, controllership, forensic accounting, or accounting systems is relevant. This opportunity is listed as entry level, while the stated requirements include at least three years of professional experience and a recognized accounting credential.

  • Pay: $80 per hour
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours per week
  • Engagement: Contractor and part-time
  • Subject matter: GAAP and IFRS accounting review

What You'll Do

You will collaborate asynchronously with a research team on task design, evaluation, and structured feedback. Your work will connect practical accounting knowledge with clear examples that AI systems can learn from.

  • Design realistic accounting scenarios and tasks based on day-to-day professional work
  • Create examples covering financial statement preparation, reconciliations, and journal entries
  • Develop examples involving audit procedures, tax filings, month-end close, and internal controls
  • Compare AI-generated accounting outputs with applicable GAAP or IFRS requirements
  • Apply professional judgment when assessing the accuracy and soundness of model responses
  • Write clear feedback that helps improve AI performance on accounting tasks
  • Collaborate asynchronously with a research team on task design and evaluation

Requirements

You should be able to explain how accountants reason through practical workflows and standards-based decisions. The role requires strong written communication, close attention to detail, and the ability to evaluate accounting outputs using GAAP or IFRS judgment.

  • At least three years of professional experience in accounting, audit, tax, bookkeeping, or finance operations
  • CPA, CA, ACCA, CMA, EA, or an equivalent recognized professional accounting credential
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Ability to apply GAAP or IFRS judgment and evaluate accounting outputs
  • Ability to design realistic accounting workflows and professional scenarios
  • Strong written communication and close attention to detail
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or Excel

Relevant Professional Background

Experience in public accounting, corporate or in-house accounting, advisory work, or a professional accounting firm is relevant. Contributions may draw from any accounting specialty, particularly where you can clearly explain real-world workflows and standards-based decisions.

  • Financial reporting and controllership
  • Audit and assurance
  • Tax and tax filings
  • Bookkeeping and reconciliations
  • Forensic accounting
  • Accounting systems and finance operations
