About this role
OpenTrain is recruiting a Video Shot Boundary Annotator to support an AI training dataset built from video clips. You will examine footage frame by frame, identify shot boundaries, capture the start and end frames for each shot, and classify transition types such as cuts, fades, dissolves, and wipes. You will also organize related shots into scene buckets based on narrative or event continuity and assign category labels to clips and scenes across content such as drama, documentary, gaming, and podcast or lifestyle programming.

What you will do
Review video clips carefully and identify every shot boundary. Create a shot card recording the start and end frame for each shot. Distinguish cuts, fades, dissolves, wipes, and related transition subtypes. Group shots into scene buckets using narrative and event continuity. Apply category labels to video clips and scene buckets. Maintain consistent, accurate annotations across a high volume of work. Follow structured labeling guidelines and flag ambiguous visual cases for review.

Required skills
Candidates should have at least one year of experience in video or film editing, content creation, or video production. Strong knowledge of shot composition, editing techniques, and transition types is required, along with the ability to distinguish subtle visual cues such as camera movement from a true shot change. Candidates should be comfortable with annotation tools and structured labeling workflows, able to work independently while meeting quality and throughput targets, and able to document edge cases and uncertain decisions clearly in writing.

Helpful background
Film studies, cinematography, or media production experience is helpful. Previous data annotation or labeling experience and familiarity with drama, documentary, gaming, or podcast and lifestyle content are also valuable.
