OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help contractors find and grow work collecting, annotating, and validating the human-generated data that trains modern AI.
As the hiring organization for this project, OpenTrain manages onboarding, quality checks, and payments so contributors can focus on producing high-quality data and developing durable freelance careers in the fast-growing AI training industry.
Why AI training and data collection matters
Human-collected datasets power next-generation AI and robotics. Recording accurate video plus inertial sensor (IMU) streams helps models learn how people move, interact with objects, and navigate real-world tasks.
This work is 100% remote, flexible, and often accessible without prior professional experience—perfect for part-time work that directly shapes how AI behaves.
The role
You will work as a Video Motion Data Collection Specialist to capture synchronized motion and video data from physical activities using your smartphone and a head-mounted camera. This is a contractor, part-time position open to contributors based in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Compensation: $6 USD per hour (PAY_PER_HOUR). Employment type: Contractor, Part-time. Language: English required.
Data type: Video with smartphone IMU sensor streams.
Label type: Data collection.
Time commitment: 20+ hours/week expected; deliver a minimum of 10 hours of approved video data each week.
What you'll do
Follow detailed technical protocols to record synchronized IMU and head-mounted video of specified physical tasks. Quality and determinism matter—you will be expected to meet strict recording and labeling standards.
Communicate with the project team to clarify instructions, report issues, and refine collection practices.
Record motion and video using your phone's built-in IMU sensors and a head-mounted camera setup (hands-free).
Deliver at least 10 hours of approved video data per week for the duration of the project.
Adhere to protocol checklists, naming conventions, and submission workflows provided by OpenTrain.
Participate in remote feedback loops and correct rejections as needed to meet quality standards.
Requirements
You must meet the technical and logistical requirements below to be considered for this project.
Access to a compatible smartphone: iPhone 12 or later, Google Pixel 6 or later, or Samsung Galaxy S21 or later.
Ability to obtain and use a head strap for hands-free, head-mounted recording within 48 hours of assignment.
Experience with smartphone IMU sensor recording and video capture.
Ability to follow detailed technical protocols and deliver deterministic, high-quality data.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for remote collaboration.
Availability for 20+ hours/week and to deliver a minimum of 10 hours of approved video each week.
Helpful background (not required)
Candidates with technical experience will be well positioned, but these are optional preferences rather than strict requirements.
Background in robotics, kinesiology, sensor-based data collection, or related technical fields.
Experience with human motion analysis, activity segmentation, or structuring datasets for machine learning.
How the project works
Apply through OpenTrain and complete a short onboarding and quality-check process; you will receive detailed protocols and submission instructions. Submissions are reviewed and must be approved to count toward the weekly quota.
