The Role

OpenTrain is recruiting Smartphone Video Recorders to collect first-person motion video and associated smartphone IMU data. You will mount your compatible phone to a head strap, record specified physical activities, and follow detailed technical protocols to ensure consistent, high-quality footage.

This is a part-time, contract role. You will deliver between 10 and 15 hours of approved video per week (under 20 hours/week total). Work is remote but limited to contributors located in the listed countries and who can reliably record the required activities.

What You'll Do

• Record first-person video of specified activities using your smartphone mounted on a head strap, capturing both video and IMU sensor data.
• Follow standardized technical protocols for camera angle, framing, movement, and video quality for each activity.
• Deliver 10–15 hours of approved, protocol-compliant video per week and meet deadlines for uploads and reviews.
• Complete device compatibility checks and an AI-assisted interview during onboarding.
• Communicate proactively about issues, ask clarifying questions, and report safety or quality concerns.

Requirements (Must Have)

To be eligible you must have the devices, physical ability, and communication skills required for safe, repeatable motion recording.

• A compatible smartphone: iPhone 12 or newer, Google Pixel 6 or newer, or Samsung Galaxy S21 or newer.
• A head strap that can securely mount the phone and capture both hands and first-person perspective.
• Ability to deliver 10–15 hours of approved video per week and meet remote deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow standardized protocols precisely.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English for remote collaboration.
• Physical fitness and ability to perform repetitive movement activities safely.

Helpful Background (Optional)

You do not need prior AI experience, but backgrounds in robotics, kinesiology, human motion analysis, or sensor-data collection are helpful and may make onboarding faster.

Experience with activity segmentation, dataset labeling, or working with mobile sensor data is a plus but not required.

Pay, Schedule, and Location

Compensation is USD $6.00 per hour, paid on a contract basis. This role is part-time and classified as contractor work.

Expected weekly delivery is 10–15 hours of approved video; total work should remain below 20 hours per week. The role is open only to contributors located in the following countries: Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, and Uruguay.

Onboarding and How It Works

Onboarding includes a device compatibility check and an AI-assisted interview to confirm you can follow protocols and capture the required footage. You will receive detailed written protocols explaining recording setups, activity lists, labeling expectations, and file delivery procedures.

Quality checks are performed on submitted video; you will receive feedback and must revise or re-record footage that does not meet standards. Clear communication and timely uploads are essential to remain active on the project.
