  • Work remotely using your professional data engineering knowledge
  • Help make practical engineering judgment part of high-quality AI training data
  • Contribute to a fast-growing field at the intersection of technology and human expertise

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a UK-based Data Engineering AI Training Specialist for a short-term contract project. You will create professional documents and technical deliverables grounded in real-world data engineering practice, while applying sound judgment to technical outputs and domain-specific decisions.

  • Contractor and part-time project engagement
  • Current residence in the United Kingdom required
  • Right to work in the United Kingdom required
  • English-language project
  • Pay: $140 to $200 per hour

What You'll Do

You will produce the types of data engineering documents and deliverables you create in your regular professional work. Where an assignment calls for hands-on delivery, you will build and own production data pipelines.

You will also document, organize, and structure engineering work for use in AI training tasks and evaluation rubrics. Clear communication and careful technical reasoning will be important throughout the project.

  • Create professional data engineering documents and technical deliverables
  • Build and own production data pipelines when assignments require hands-on delivery

  • Apply professional judgment to technical outputs and domain-specific decisions

Requirements

This role is designed for professionals with hands-on production experience in data engineering or a closely related discipline. The structured experience level is listed as entry level, but the project requires practical ownership of real-world data engineering delivery and strong implementation skills.

  • Hands-on experience as a data engineer, analytics engineer, data platform engineer, data architect, or in a closely related production role
  • Strong SQL and Python capabilities
  • Practical experience with ETL or ELT, orchestration, streaming, and data warehousing
  • Production ownership of data pipelines and real-world data engineering delivery
  • Ability to create clear professional documentation and structure complex technical work
  • Familiarity with tools or platforms such as Spark, Kafka, Airflow, dbt, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Current residence in the United Kingdom and the right to work there

Who Should Apply

Apply if you can translate practical data engineering experience into clear documents, structured technical tasks, and reliable evaluation criteria. Your background may come from data engineering, analytics engineering, data platforms, data architecture, or a closely related production role.

The project is a strong fit for professionals who are comfortable combining hands-on pipeline work with documentation and technical evaluation.

  • Data engineers with production pipeline ownership experience
  • Analytics engineers who work confidently with SQL, Python, and modern data stacks
  • Data platform engineers and architects familiar with production systems
  • Technical professionals who can explain complex engineering decisions clearly
