About AI Training and Model Evaluation

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. People evaluate model responses, prepare examples, and provide detailed feedback that helps AI systems become more useful, accurate, clear, and aligned with instructions.

This is flexible, remote work in a fast-growing technology field. Your judgments about writing quality can directly influence how language models learn to communicate and assist users.

The Technical Writer Role

As a Technical Writer, you will participate in a write-like-human evaluation project for advanced AI system development. You will compare multiple AI-generated responses to writing prompts, assign analytical quality scores, and provide detailed rationales explaining your assessments.

The work requires advanced written English, technical writing and content evaluation expertise, careful judgment, and strong critical analysis. No prior experience with AI is required because your subject-matter knowledge and writing expertise are the primary qualifications.

  • Remote and virtual contractor position
  • Open to candidates based in the United States, Canada, or the United Kingdom
  • Expected commitment of fewer than 20 hours per week
  • Expected project duration of 1 to 3 months
  • Compensation of $90 to $140 per hour
  • Part-time contract engagement

What You'll Do

You will review language model outputs against specific writing prompts and document findings through a digital content review platform. Your feedback should be clear, concise, thorough, and grounded in observable differences between responses.

  • Evaluate and compare multiple AI-generated responses to writing prompts.
  • Assess clarity, tone, helpfulness, coherence, and adherence to instructions.
  • Provide comprehensive rationales and quality scores for each assessment.
  • Identify ways to improve the quality and instructional value of language model outputs.
  • Apply expert judgment to subtle differences in writing effectiveness.
  • Maintain meticulous attention to detail while reviewing content and documenting findings.
  • Work asynchronously with project managers and reviewers to support consistent, complete deliverables.
  • Use strong written English and critical analysis skills throughout the project.

Requirements and Preferred Qualifications

This is an intermediate-level opportunity for candidates with technical writing and language model evaluation subject-matter expertise. You should be comfortable working independently, managing deadlines, and communicating effectively in a virtual environment.

  • Technical writing experience or expertise
  • Content evaluation and editing skills
  • Exceptional written communication and fluent, native-level English proficiency
  • Ability to assess clarity, tone, coherence, usefulness, and instructional quality
  • Strong critical analysis and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with digital platforms used for content review, annotation, or evaluation
  • Capacity to work independently and manage project deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate asynchronously in a virtual setting
  • Experience with AI systems or model evaluation practices is a plus, but not required

Who Should Apply

Apply if you have a strong command of written English and can distinguish meaningful differences in the quality and effectiveness of technical or instructional content. This project is suited to technical writers, editors, and content evaluators who enjoy structured analysis and want to contribute to the development of next-generation AI.

You do not need previous AI experience. Candidates must be based in the United States, Canada, or the United Kingdom and be comfortable completing the work in English.
