About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help accounting and finance specialists turn domain expertise into a durable freelance portfolio, manage opportunities in one place, and grow by doing real AI training work.

Why AI training matters for accounting experts

AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is how models learn to reason about real-world problems. For accounting, your judgments and explanations help models understand technical standards, disclosures, and SEC reporting practices.

This work is accessible to experienced practitioners: it supports flexible, often asynchronous schedules and directly shapes how financial models interpret complex ASC topics.

The role

OpenTrain is hiring Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting Specialists to turn real technical accounting memos, schedules, SEC filings, footnotes, and transaction analyses into structured training data for AI.

You will design realistic accounting scenarios, review AI-generated outputs for technical accuracy and defensibility under U.S. GAAP (ASC), and write clear, actionable feedback that improves model reasoning on ASC judgments.

  • Work with document-based data (SEC filings, memos, footnotes, schedules).
  • Labeling tasks include evaluation/rating of AI outputs and text generation (written explanations and corrections).

What you’ll do (key responsibilities)

  • Create realistic technical accounting and SEC reporting scenarios based on hands-on experience.
  • Review AI-generated accounting outputs for technical accuracy, supportability, and consistency with applicable standards.
  • Provide written feedback explaining whether conclusions are defensible under relevant ASC guidance and why.
  • Focus on ASC 606 (revenue), ASC 842 (leases), ASC 718 (stock compensation), and ASC 805 (business combinations).
  • Work asynchronously on specialized accounting tasks as a contractor.

Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate practical, hands-on experience and the ability to explain technical accounting judgments clearly and consistently.

  • Big 4 or public-company technical accounting and SEC reporting experience.
  • Hands-on SEC reporting work preparing or reviewing 10-K and 10-Q filings.
  • Practical application experience with ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 718, and ASC 805.
  • Active CPA credential.
  • Strong written communication and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Fluent English (role language requirement).
  • Applicants must be located in the United States.

Compensation, schedule, and employment type

This is a contractor, part-time role. Time expectation is 20+ hours per week.

Pay is hourly (USD) between $80 and $120 per hour; the posted hourly rate is $120 and the allowable range is $80–$120.
