The Role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Stylized 3D Digital Artist for a remote, 12-week contract project. You will create high-quality stylized models and digital assets from briefs and references for AI training and model-development work.

The project supports schedules of up to 40 hours per week. Part-time artists working about 20 hours per week are welcome. Compensation is approximately $7 USD per hour.

What You'll Do

You will produce polished, consistent 3D assets across multiple stylized approaches and apply production-minded techniques throughout the creation process. You will also document workflows and use feedback to improve revisions.

  • Create stylized 3D models and digital assets from briefs and references
  • Work across low-poly, voxel, handcrafted, and material-driven styles
  • Recreate clay, fabric, paper, textile, and other material appearances
  • Apply topology, UV mapping, lighting, shading, rendering, and material-development techniques
  • Produce consistent asset variations and optimize assets for production
  • Document workflows and incorporate feedback into revisions

Requirements

A strong portfolio demonstrating stylized 3D work and material exploration is preferred. Candidates should be proficient with at least one relevant digital creation tool and understand how to develop visually consistent, production-ready assets.

  • Ability to create stylized 3D models across low-poly, voxel, handcrafted, and material-driven styles
  • Practical proficiency with at least one tool such as Blender, ZBrush, Adobe Creative Suite, After Effects, 3ds Max, or Cinema 4D
  • Familiarity with relevant plugins and scripts
  • Understanding of topology, UV mapping, lighting, shading, rendering, and material creation
  • Experience recreating clay, fabric, paper, textile, or similar material appearances
  • Understanding of non-photorealistic rendering workflows and visual storytelling
  • Judgment around asset consistency and production optimization
  • Strong communication, attention to detail, and time-management skills
