About AI Training Work
AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Specialists create examples, evaluate model responses, and provide expert feedback so AI systems can reason more accurately and reliably.
In this role, your structural engineering judgment will help shape models that work with technical analysis, design, simulation, seismic assessment, and engineering standards.
Work directly on cutting-edge AI training tasks
Apply specialized engineering knowledge to model evaluation
Contribute remotely with a flexible contractor schedule
The Role
OpenTrain is recruiting a Structural Engineering AI Task Creator to turn practical engineering judgment into rigorous training tasks for AI systems. Each task should combine an unambiguous engineering problem, a deterministic checker for scoring model responses, and a trusted reference solution demonstrating how the problem should be solved.
The work spans structural analysis, seismic design, finite element simulation, code-compliant detailing, and retrofit design. This is an entry-level opportunity by experience classification, but it requires a bachelor's degree, applied structural engineering experience, and strong technical capabilities.
Subject area: Structural Engineering AI Evaluation
Data type: Text
Work includes text generation and evaluation/rating
English-language work
What You'll Do
You will create realistic, appropriately scoped engineering challenges using OpenSees and develop the materials needed to evaluate AI-generated solutions. Your work should test whether a model can reason correctly about structural behavior and produce technically sound responses.
You will also assess model outputs, document issues clearly, and provide structured expert feedback that improves performance in structural engineering.
Design AI training tasks based on real structural engineering problems
Write precise problem statements involving analysis, design, simulation, and code compliance
Develop deterministic scoring checkers and reliable reference solutions
Use OpenSees to create realistic engineering challenges
Build tasks involving pushover analysis and response spectrum analysis
Create challenges involving nonlinear modeling, reinforced concrete, and steel connections
Develop tasks related to structural retrofit and seismic design
Evaluate AI-generated responses for technical accuracy and engineering soundness
Check model responses against applicable standards
Provide structured feedback to improve AI model performance
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a closely related discipline, along with applied experience in structural analysis and design. Proficiency with OpenSees and familiarity with relevant engineering standards are required.
You should be able to reason about seismic, nonlinear, pushover, or finite element problems and explain technical solutions clearly in written English. A methodical, self-directed working style and strong attention to detail are important for producing dependable training data.
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a closely related field
Applied experience in structural analysis and design
Proficiency with OpenSees
Familiarity with Eurocode EN 1992, EN 1993, and EN 1998 and/or DIN standards
Ability to reason about seismic, nonlinear, pushover, or finite element problems
Strong written English and clear technical writing
Careful, precise, methodical, and self-directed approach
Helpful Background
The following experience is valuable but is not listed as required. It can help you create more realistic tasks, reference solutions, and technical evaluations across a wider range of structural engineering scenarios.
Finite element analysis beyond commercial software
OpenSees Tcl or Python scripting
Seismic assessment or retrofit design
Performance-based earthquake engineering
Engineering research
AI training workflows or prompt engineering
Mentoring or educational content creation
Chartered or licensed professional status
