About AI Training Work
AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Subject-matter experts create challenging examples, assess model responses, and provide precise feedback so AI can reason more accurately in specialized fields such as structural engineering.
Work remotely with flexible hours
Contribute directly to the development of cutting-edge AI systems
Use professional expertise to evaluate and improve model performance
The Role
OpenTrain AI is hiring a Structural Engineer AI Task Creator to design, create, and evaluate training tasks based on real structural engineering challenges. Your expertise will help train AI to reason about structural behavior, analysis, design, simulation, and code compliance.
The role is listed as entry level, while the requirements call for a BEng and applied experience in structural analysis and design. It is open to engineers located in the United Kingdom.
Fully remote contract work
Part-time contractor position
10-40 hours per week on your own schedule
The structured listing specifies a commitment of 20+ hours per week
Pay: $80-$110 per hour
What You'll Do
You will create technically rigorous written tasks and evaluation materials that test whether AI systems can understand and solve realistic structural engineering problems.
Design AI training tasks based on structural analysis, design, simulation, and code compliance
Write clear, precise problem statements that test reasoning about structural behavior
Develop deterministic scoring checkers and reference solutions for each task
Evaluate AI-generated responses for technical accuracy and compliance with relevant standards
Provide structured expert feedback to improve AI performance in structural engineering
Requirements
Applicants should be able to combine practical structural engineering knowledge with strong technical writing and evaluation skills.
BEng degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field
MEng or PhD is a plus
Applied experience in structural analysis and design using industry software
Proficiency with OpenSees for creating realistic structural analysis tasks
Experience with pushover analysis, response spectrum analysis, nonlinear modeling, or performance-based design
Familiarity with Eurocode EN 1992, EN 1993, and EN 1998; BS 8110; or ACI 318/AISC 360
Experience formulating clear engineering problem statements and scoring solutions
Strong written communication skills in English
