About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Engineers and other specialists help improve modern AI systems by creating examples, solving technical tasks, reviewing model outputs, and evaluating whether generated code is correct, secure, maintainable, and useful.

  • Work remotely with a computer and internet connection.
  • Contribute directly to how advanced AI systems understand and produce software.
  • Use your engineering expertise in flexible, project-based work.

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking expert Full-Stack Software Engineers for an AI training project involving software development, technical problem-solving, debugging, system architecture, and code evaluation. You will create, solve, review, and validate challenging software-engineering tasks across front-end and back-end systems, including translating complete coding builds from one programming language into another.

This contractor role is global and fully remote, with candidates limited to the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, India, Germany, Australia, and Japan. The expected commitment is under 20 hours per week, and the project is expected to run for 1 to 3 months.

  • Pay range: $50-$100 USD per hour
  • Contractor, part-time engagement
  • Flexible schedule with hours and days chosen by you
  • Weekend work is welcome when there is project activity
  • English fluency required
  • Expected to begin immediately after onboarding

What You'll Do

You will work throughout the application stack rather than focusing exclusively on one layer. The work may involve unfamiliar repositories, complete software architectures, and systems that connect browsers, applications, APIs, services, databases, and external integrations.

  • Develop, modify, and debug front-end and back-end application components.
  • Implement user-facing features and the services, APIs, and data models behind them.
  • Trace requests and data across browsers, applications, APIs, services, databases, and integrations.
  • Understand existing architecture while working in unfamiliar codebases.
  • Diagnose failures involving application state, API contracts, authentication, persistence, networking, and deployment.
  • Evaluate and improve code written in multiple programming languages.
  • Review AI-generated solutions for correctness, completeness, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Create, solve, review, and validate demanding software-engineering tasks.

Required Qualifications and Skills

This opportunity is intended for highly skilled engineers with strong professional experience developing production full-stack applications. You should have meaningful hands-on experience in both front-end and back-end engineering, along with the ability to understand and contribute to complete software-system architecture.

  • Strong professional experience building production full-stack applications
  • Production experience with multiple programming languages
  • Strong knowledge of browser applications, APIs, application state, databases, and service integration
  • Ability to work effectively in unfamiliar repositories and codebases
  • Strong debugging and technical problem-solving skills
  • Full-stack software engineering and AI code evaluation expertise
  • Python, React, JavaScript, Java, Node.js, Rust, Golang, and TypeScript skills

Compensation and Availability

Compensation is output-based. Experts are paid per task that meets project specifications, and the time needed for each task may vary based on experience and workflow. The listed compensation range is $50-$100 USD per hour. Minimum submission requirements apply, including a minimum number of tasks each week.

OpenTrain typically fills roles within 48 hours. If selected, you must be ready to start your first tasks within 24 to 48 hours after completing onboarding.

  • Expected weekly commitment: less than 20 hours
  • Expected project duration: 1 to 3 months
  • Target start: immediately
  • Work schedule: flexible, based on project activity

Hiring Process

The selection process is designed to assess your engineering experience and suitability for AI code evaluation work. Complete each stage promptly if you are ready to contribute.

  • Apply to the role and complete the screening questions.
  • Complete an approximately 30-minute AI interview.
  • Complete a technical assessment if required.
  • Complete the hiring manager review.
