The Role
OpenTrain AI is seeking an expert SQL Query Evaluation Specialist for a remote, hourly contractor role. You will review AI-generated SQL queries, database designs, and data-processing logic, then produce accurate reference solutions and detailed explanations.
The role focuses on correctness, clarity, prompt adherence, methodology, query structure, indexing strategy, conceptual understanding, performance, and reasoning quality. You will also fact-check data-related claims and compare multiple AI responses.

What You'll Do
You will assess technical responses methodically and turn your findings into useful training material. The work combines SQL evaluation, database engineering judgment, technical explanation, and comparative review of AI outputs.
Review SQL queries, database designs, and data-processing logic generated by AI
Identify issues in methodology, query structure, indexing strategy, and conceptual reasoning
Fact-check data-related claims and validate correctness, clarity, and performance
Write detailed reference solutions and explanations for complex SQL and database problems
Rate and compare multiple AI responses based on correctness and reasoning quality
Contribute SQL and database engineering expertise to AI training work
Required Qualifications
This is an expert-level role for a database professional who can explain technical reasoning clearly and spot subtle issues in queries, schemas, and data workflows.
Expert-level SQL, including complex joins, window functions, aggregation, and query plan analysis
Experience with database performance tuning, indexing strategies, and concurrency or locking issues
Hands-on experience with relational data models, schemas, and data warehouse structures
Strong ETL or ELT experience and familiarity with cloud or on-premises data platforms
Clear written and spoken English with the ability to explain technical reasoning well
Bachelor's degree or higher in a related technical field
Comfort with version control, CI/CD practices, and collaborative database workflows
Helpful Background
Prior experience with AI data training, annotation, or evaluating AI-generated technical content is a strong plus. Familiarity with the following areas will also support success in the role.
Star schema and snowflake schema design
Database changes and migrations
Backup and recovery planning
Database monitoring
A methodical approach to finding subtle data or query issues
