About OpenTrain AI

OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role. OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling — a place to start and grow work that directly shapes how modern AI systems behave.

We hire contributors for short- and long-term projects across many languages and domains. Work is remote and flexible, and contributors help improve AI by providing human insight on language, speech, and behavior.

About AI training work

AI training (also called data labeling or annotation) is the human side of building AI: people create, evaluate, and refine examples that models learn from. Tasks range from transcribing audio to rating responses and evaluating spoken output.

This project focuses on speech evaluation — you’ll help make AI-generated Dutch sound more natural and intelligible by identifying pronunciation, accent, and fluency issues and giving structured feedback.

The role

As a Dutch Speech & Accent Evaluator you will listen to AI-generated Dutch audio, rate accent, fluency, and pronunciation, and provide concise, actionable feedback that helps engineers and linguists fine-tune the model.

This is a remote, part-time contractor role for contributors based in the Netherlands. Work is audio-focused and paid hourly.

  • Data type: audio (AI-generated responses and candidate prompts)
  • Label type: evaluation rating (accent, fluency, pronunciation)
  • Contract: contractor, part-time; under 20 hours/week
  • Pay: $28 USD per hour

What you'll do

Evaluate short audio clips of AI speech in Dutch and assign ratings for accent accuracy, pronunciation clarity, and overall fluency using provided rubrics.

Identify errors or unnatural phrasing, note specific problematic sounds or intonation patterns, and write clear, structured feedback that explains issues and suggests improvements.

Run iterative evaluation cycles: listen to revised audio, compare to earlier versions, and track improvements across attempts until quality targets are met.

  • Rate audio against a 7/7 accent and fluency scale and explain scoring decisions.
  • Provide concise, actionable notes (what is wrong, where it occurs, and what to change).
  • Follow project guidelines and complete evaluations in the labeling interface provided by OpenTrain AI.

Requirements

Applicants must be currently living in the Netherlands and have used Dutch daily for at least 2 years in personal or professional settings to ensure familiarity with local pronunciations and regional variations.

Attention to detail and the ability to provide clear, structured feedback are essential. A background in linguistics, phonetics, speech analysis, or language teaching is a plus but not required.

  • Location requirement: must be based in the Netherlands
  • Language requirement: Dutch used daily for 2+ years
  • Experience level: entry level — relevant life experience counts
  • Computer/internet: reliable connection and ability to listen to and upload audio

Evaluation & interview

As part of the hiring process you will complete a short assessment that tests your ability to analyze AI-generated Dutch audio. The assessment evaluates linguistic accuracy, speech-evaluation skills, iterative improvement approach, and communication clarity.

During the assessment you may be asked to act as an AI interviewer: greet a candidate, explain the process, ask targeted questions about pronunciation or accent features, guide multiple iterations, and provide final structured feedback in a professional yet conversational tone.

  • Assessment criteria include linguistic accuracy, ability to spot accent issues, iterative improvement mindset, and clarity of feedback.
  • Be prepared to describe common phonetic or accent-specific features of Dutch and explain how you'd improve a clip across iterations.
