About AI training and this role
AI training (data annotation) is the human work that teaches models to understand language. This role focuses on Spanish text: you will annotate, validate, and document language labels that directly shape how NLP systems interpret Spanish across dialects and contexts.
The role
OpenTrain AI is hiring a Spanish Language Data Annotation Expert to annotate and review Spanish-language text with high linguistic accuracy. You will apply consistent labeling, surface cultural and idiomatic nuances, and help maintain clear annotation guidelines for the team.
Position type: Contractor, part-time (20+ hours/week).
Work location: Fully remote — open worldwide.
Experience level: Intermediate.
What you'll do
Annotate and label Spanish-language text with precision and consistency.
Perform classification and entity/NER labeling tasks for text datasets.
Review, edit, and validate annotated datasets to meet quality standards.
Document and maintain annotation guidelines and best practices.
Identify linguistic edge cases and recommend process improvements.
Communicate findings clearly in written reports and remote discussions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teammates to clarify project requirements.
Required skills and qualifications
Native or near-native Spanish fluency with idiomatic command of grammar and vocabulary.
Proven experience in data annotation or linguistic quality assurance.
Professional-level English communication skills for collaboration and reporting.
Strong attention to detail and high standards for accuracy when validating labels.
Ability to explain linguistic edge cases and annotation decisions clearly.
Comfort working independently in a remote contractor workflow.
Familiarity with digital annotation and collaboration tools (specific tools may vary by project).
Helpful background
The following are not required but will make you more competitive and effective in this role.
Experience supporting AI, NLP, or data-driven language projects.
Training or background in linguistics, translation, localization, or related fields.
Prior work with classification and entity/NER labeling for text datasets.
Experience adapting guidelines for different Spanish dialects and registers.
How the work is structured
This is a contract, part-time role with a typical commitment of 20+ hours per week. Tasks center on TEXT data and include classification and entity/NER labeling. The hiring and contracting organization for this role is OpenTrain AI, and contributors manage work and communication remotely.
Specific labeling software and compensation details vary by project and will be provided when you are invited to a project. You must be able to work independently, follow detailed annotation guidelines, and participate in asynchronous or scheduled remote discussions as needed.
Languages required: Spanish (es) and professional-level English (en).
World-wide applicants accepted; must be able to work remotely as a contractor.
