About AI training work
AI training (data labeling/annotation/human feedback) is the human work that helps modern models learn. Contributors create and vet examples—annotating code, text, images, and more—so models behave reliably in real situations.
This role sits at the intersection of software engineering and annotation: you'll author and execute workflow scenarios that teach models how engineers think and act.
100% remote work you can do from anywhere with internet
Flexible, part-time-friendly projects ideal for building new skills
Work that directly shapes how state-of-the-art AI systems behave
The role
As a Software Engineering Workflow Annotator you will design, run, and document realistic multi-step engineering workflows (pull request management, issue triage, merge conflict resolution, CI updates) and produce high-quality annotations that capture intent, sequencing, rationale, outcomes, and edge cases.
You will execute scenarios in real collaboration and engineering tools, capture visual artifacts like screenshots or logs when needed, and flag ambiguous or unrealistic scenarios for refinement.
Design and author multi-step, GitHub-centered engineering scenarios
Execute workflows in real-time using relevant tools
Document steps, decisions, expected outcomes, and artifacts
Flag and refine ambiguous or unrealistic cases
What you'll do (day to day)
Tasks blend authoring, hands-on execution, and careful documentation. You will create scenario descriptions, perform the steps using collaboration and engineering tools, and produce annotation records that a model-training pipeline can use.
Design scenarios around PRs, issue triage, merge conflicts, and CI changes
Execute each workflow in actual tools (GitHub workflows, Slack, Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, Snowflake where applicable)
Document each step with clear rationale, expected outcomes, and decision points
Capture supporting artifacts such as screenshots, logs, or file diffs
Review and refine scenarios based on feedback to improve realism and usefulness
Work with text-based annotation and data-collection tasks (DATA_COLLECTION, TEXT_GENERATION; data type: TEXT)
Requirements
You must demonstrate hands-on software engineering experience centered on GitHub workflows and strong written English for clear technical documentation. This role asks for precise, structured annotations and familiarity with common engineering collaboration tools.
Professional software engineering experience with daily use of GitHub-centered workflows
Strong written English and careful documentation habits
Familiarity with code review, versioning, branching, or release workflows
Comfort using Slack and Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 in engineering contexts
Basic SQL knowledge; Snowflake familiarity is a plus
Experience with data annotation, technical writing, or QA documentation is helpful
Who should apply
This contract role suits engineers or technical documenters who enjoy translating real engineering activity into clear, repeatable scenario descriptions. It is listed at entry level but requires practical engineering workflow experience.
Ideal applicants value structured writing, attention to edge cases, and working in real tools to capture authentic artifacts.
Entry-level through experienced engineers who use GitHub workflows daily
Technical writers or QA engineers with software background
People comfortable working independently and documenting multi-step processes
Compensation, schedule, and employment type
This is a remote, contract, part-time role. Open to applicants worldwide. The role requires at least 20 hours per week and is paid per hour.
