The Role
OpenTrain is recruiting a Software Engineering AI Training Expert to create reinforcement learning environments that test AI models on complex software engineering challenges. You will build reproducible environments and golden reference solutions for tasks involving code fixes, feature development, refactoring, and performance optimization.

What You'll Do
You will design realistic evaluation environments and produce expert-level solutions that make software engineering model performance measurable. The work involves analyzing code, solving difficult technical problems, and documenting the reasoning behind effective solutions.
Create environments that evaluate AI performance on realistic software engineering challenges
Produce expert-level code samples, debugging strategies, and development insights
Analyze software defects and performance bottlenecks across diverse codebases
Implement scalable and maintainable features
Refactor legacy code to improve clarity, efficiency, and reliability
Document technical reasoning, solution approaches, and code decisions
Review peer-contributed code and technical submissions for accuracy and clarity
Required Skills
This role requires significant hands-on ability to write, debug, and optimize complex software. You should be comfortable applying software engineering principles across challenging codebases and explaining your technical decisions clearly.
Strong expertise in at least one of Python 3, Java, Rust, Go, C++, or TypeScript
Understanding of algorithms, data structures, scalability, and software engineering best practices
Ability to diagnose defects and performance bottlenecks in diverse codebases
Experience refactoring legacy systems and improving long-term code reliability
Ability to explain technical reasoning, solution approaches, and code decisions clearly
Experience delivering high-impact features is valuable
Curiosity about AI and its technical challenges is helpful, but previous AI experience is not required
