About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building modern AI systems. Experts review examples, evaluate model outputs, and provide clear feedback so AI can better understand complex tasks such as software engineering, system design, and technical communication.

This work is remote and often flexible, making it possible to contribute to cutting-edge technology alongside other professional or personal commitments.

  • Help shape how AI systems reason about software engineering
  • Use professional expertise to evaluate and improve model behavior
  • Work remotely with a flexible contractor schedule

The Role

As a Software Engineering AI Evaluation Specialist, you will support AI training focused on software engineering. You will review code samples, architecture proposals, and technical design documents, then provide structured human feedback that reflects sound engineering judgment.

Prior AI training experience is not required. This is a remote, part-time contractor opportunity available worldwide, with an advertised rate of $90-$140 per hour and a time requirement of 20 or more hours per week. Project schedule and duration will be established separately.

  • Time requirement: 20+ hours per week
  • Experience level: Entry level classification

What You'll Do

You will analyze technical decisions and communicate the reasoning behind engineering choices. Your work will combine code evaluation, system design analysis, technical writing, debugging, testing strategy, and performance assessment.

  • Evaluate code samples and architectural proposals
  • Explain system design trade-offs
  • Provide written feedback on strengths, weaknesses, and potential improvements
  • Produce RFCs, ADRs, and design specifications
  • Conduct structured code reviews
  • Reason through debugging scenarios and recommend solutions
  • Develop automation testing strategies
  • Prepare performance analysis reports
  • Translate complex engineering concepts into concise, accessible language

Required Skills and Experience

You should be able to assess production-grade software and explain technical decisions clearly in written English. Strong documentation and code review experience are central to this role.

  • At least three years of experience delivering production-grade software with a modern technology stack
  • Experience writing RFCs, ADRs, design specifications, or substantial code review commentary
  • Strong system design and technical decision analysis skills
  • Practical debugging, automation testing, and performance analysis experience
  • Ability to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly in written English
  • Experience collaborating with leading organizations or academic institutions is beneficial

Who Should Apply

This opportunity may suit software engineers and technical professionals who enjoy breaking down complex systems, reviewing implementation choices, and explaining engineering concepts with precision. You do not need previous AI training experience, but you should bring practical software engineering experience and strong written communication.

  • Software engineers with production experience
  • Technical writers who create detailed engineering documentation
  • Engineers experienced in system design, debugging, testing, or performance analysis
  • Professionals interested in applying software expertise to AI development
