  • Part-time schedule of 20+ hours per week
  • English-language work
  • Pay range of $60 to $90 USD per hour

About AI Training and Model Evaluation

AI training is the human side of building modern artificial intelligence. Specialists create examples, test model behavior, and assess whether AI systems produce accurate, useful, and technically sound results.

In this role, your simulations and evaluation criteria will help measure whether AI models can reason from first principles and produce designs that satisfy rigorous engineering requirements.

  • Work directly on cutting-edge AI evaluation projects
  • Turn expert judgment into measurable tests and specifications
  • Help assess how well models solve demanding technical problems

The Engineering Simulation AI Evaluation Expert Role

OpenTrain is seeking an Engineering Simulation and AI Evaluation Specialist for a remote contractor position. You will create technical simulations and specification sheets that test whether AI models can reason across engineering domains and produce valid designs.

The work may cover control systems, analog or RF circuits, power electronics, and mechanical design. You will combine applied engineering expertise with Python development and systematic evaluation.

  • Employment type: Contractor and part time
  • Experience level listed for the opportunity: Entry level
  • Worldwide eligibility
  • No prior AI model evaluation experience is required

What You'll Do

You will design realistic engineering problems, create the simulations needed to test proposed solutions, and establish objective standards for success. Model interactions will be controlled through the simulation, with final designs assessed using an automated grading process.

  • Build simulations for controller gains, circuit parameters, mechanical geometries, and related engineering artifacts
  • Define measurable specifications and quantitative pass/fail thresholds
  • Write prompts that require genuine engineering reasoning rather than simple fact recall
  • Support controlled AI model interaction with engineering simulations
  • Evaluate final designs through automated grading against each specification
  • Judge technical solutions from first principles

Required Expertise and Technical Skills

This opportunity requires deep applied engineering expertise and the ability to convert engineering requirements into rigorous, testable acceptance criteria. A PhD or equivalent industry experience is required in one or more of the listed technical areas.

  • Deep applied expertise in control systems, analog or RF circuits, power electronics, or mechanical design
  • PhD or equivalent industry experience in a relevant engineering area
  • Ability to write engineering simulations in Python
  • Experience defining quantitative, testable pass/fail thresholds
  • Ability to design rigorous first-principles engineering problems
  • Ability to judge model-generated technical solutions
  • Familiarity with browser-based development tools
  • Familiarity with GitHub
