About this role
OpenTrain is recruiting for an experienced software engineer to support AI training through project-based evaluation of code and technical content. You will use practical engineering judgment to design coding questions and assess AI-generated responses for correctness, efficiency, clarity, and alignment with real-world programming, system design, and engineering practices. The work is remote, asynchronous, and structured for independent contributors who want to take on assignments alongside their primary employment.
What you will do
- Design job-related coding questions that reflect practical software engineering scenarios
- Review AI-generated code and technical responses for correctness and efficiency
- Assess clarity, engineering judgment, and alignment with production-level practices
- Provide structured feedback that helps improve AI understanding of programming tasks and system design
- Follow detailed technical guidelines while working independently
Required skills
- At least four years of professional software engineering experience, excluding internships
- Background in software, backend, frontend, full-stack, or systems engineering
- Strong coding skills in at least one major language such as Python, Java, C++, JavaScript, or Go
- Experience building and debugging production-level code
- Strong written communication and close attention to detail
Helpful background
Experience translating real-world engineering practices into clear coding problems and judging technical tradeoffs will help you contribute effectively. This work is designed for experienced engineers who can evaluate both implementation quality and the reasoning behind an AI-generated response.
Work arrangement
This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity with flexible hours, no minimum hours commitment, and remote asynchronous work. Assignments are part-time and can be completed alongside primary employment. Compensation is advertised at up to $65 per hour.
