The Software Engineering AI Code Evaluator Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Software Engineering AI Code Evaluator to assess AI performance on real-world software tasks. You will combine hands-on technical judgment with structured AI evaluation across correctness, code quality, architecture, debugging, algorithms, data structures, and system design.

This is a remote contractor opportunity for an individual software professional based in an English-speaking country. The role is listed at an entry level and requires at least one year of software-engineering experience, including some experience within the past seven years.

What You’ll Do

You will evaluate AI-generated code and explain whether proposed solutions meet demanding software-engineering standards. Your work will include reviewing model reasoning, designing challenging tasks, and communicating precise findings that can improve future model performance.

  • Assess generated code for correctness, quality, maintainability, and design
  • Review model reasoning about architecture, debugging approaches, and system design
  • Create rigorous software-engineering problems and coding challenges
  • Produce reference solutions and test cases
  • Evaluate alternative implementation and architecture choices
  • Write detailed feedback explaining technical findings and decisions

Requirements

You should have strong software-engineering judgment and the ability to communicate technical decisions clearly in written English. The role requires experience reviewing real-world software and understanding how implementation choices affect correctness, quality, maintainability, and system design.

  • At least one year of software-engineering experience at a top technology company
  • At least part of that experience must have been within the past seven years
  • Expertise in system design and software architecture
  • Strong debugging, algorithms, and data-structures knowledge
  • Sound code-review judgment across correctness, quality, design, and maintainability
  • Ability to create coding problems, reference solutions, and test cases
  • Clear written English communication of technical decisions

Helpful Background

An undergraduate degree from a top-ranked university is preferred. Experience working on real-world software systems and comparing implementation or architecture alternatives can further support success, especially when paired with strong code-review judgment.
