The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking an expert Senior Software Engineer for a remote contractor engagement of approximately 15 hours per week. You will create reinforcement learning environments that test an AI model's ability to solve complex software engineering problems.

Each environment must be reproducible and include a golden reference solution. Your work will cover code fixes, feature implementation, codebase refactoring, and performance optimization across supported programming languages.

What You’ll Do

You will produce technically rigorous training contributions and explain the reasoning behind your solutions. You will also review peer submissions to help maintain the accuracy, clarity, and usefulness of the resulting AI training data.

  • Create expert-level code samples, debugging strategies, and development insights
  • Work in Python 3, Java, Rust, Go, C++, or TypeScript
  • Analyze and resolve complex software defects and performance bottlenecks
  • Implement robust features with scalability, maintainability, and software best practices in mind
  • Refactor and optimize legacy code for clarity, efficiency, and reliability
  • Document technical reasoning, solution approaches, and code decisions
  • Review and validate peer-contributed code and technical submissions

Requirements

You should have significant hands-on expertise in at least one of the listed programming languages, along with strong software engineering fundamentals. The project specifically seeks expertise in computer code programming labeling workflows and AI systems training.

Fluent English proficiency is required. Previous AI experience is not required, but interest in or curiosity about AI and its technical challenges is valuable.
