About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect people with projects that teach AI systems how to behave and improve — from code review to image annotation — and provide tools and workflows to grow in this fast-moving field.

  • Creating an OpenTrain account is free.
  • Work is remote and flexible, letting you fit projects around your schedule.

Why AI training matters

AI training (data labeling and human feedback) is the human work behind modern models. Reviewers and annotators prepare and validate examples that shape model behavior across code generation, language, audio, and vision tasks. Contributors get hands-on exposure to cutting-edge systems and directly influence how models perform in the real world.

  • Cutting-edge impact: your reviews help train next-generation AI.
  • Accessible, flexible work: many projects allow part-time hours and remote work.

The role

You will audit annotator reviews of AI-generated Node.js code: build and run each submitted snippet in a sandboxed container or VM, confirm it implements the prompt correctly, verify it executes without errors, and ensure it follows best practices for security, performance, and testing. Where annotator ratings are incorrect, you will correct them and provide concise, rubric-aligned feedback so the training data remains high quality.

  • Focus area: AI-generated Node.js code response annotation.
  • Work with sandboxed containers to execute and validate code safely.

What you'll do day-to-day

Perform detailed, checklist-driven reviews of AI-produced Node.js snippets, including hands-on execution, debugging, and rubric-based scoring. Provide short, actionable feedback to annotators, flag potential security or supply-chain issues, and update ratings to match the quality rubric.

  • Spin up sandboxed containers/VMs to build and run code snippets safely.
  • Verify prompt compliance and correct functional behavior of each snippet.
  • Detect security problems (injection, insecure deserialization, dependency CVEs).
  • Assess performance and scalability patterns (async I/O, worker threads, streaming).
  • Confirm adequate testing and coverage using Jest, Vitest, Mocha/Chai, or similar.
  • Correct mis-ratings and leave concise, constructive feedback aligned to the rubric.

Requirements

You must bring strong, hands-on Node.js and modern JavaScript/TypeScript expertise and proven experience running and validating code in containerized environments. We preserve all technical requirements exactly as listed below.

  • Experience: 7+ years in Node.js back-end or full-stack development, QA, or code-review roles.
  • Language & runtime: Modern JS/TS (ES2023+), Node.js runtime v18–v22, ESM/CJS, ts-node.
  • Tooling: npm or pnpm; familiarity with container tooling such as Docker for sandboxing.
  • Testing & debugging: Advanced use of Jest, Vitest, Mocha/Chai, supertest, coverage tools (nyc, Istanbul), and profilers (clinic.js, node-inspect).
  • Security: Ability to spot injection flaws, insecure deserialization, dependency CVEs, and privilege-escalation issues; experience with supply-chain scanners (npm-audit, Snyk).
  • Performance: Skilled in async patterns, streaming, clustering/worker threads, and caching strategies (e.g., Redis, in-memory LRU).
  • DevOps & observability: Comfortable with Docker, CI/CD (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI), and logging/telemetry (winston/pino, OpenTelemetry).
  • Proof-of-work: Capable of spinning up containers or sandboxed VMs to execute and validate code snippets.
  • QA practice: Experienced with rubric-based scoring, checklist reviews, and ticketing/annotation tools (Jira, Asana).
  • Communication: Excellent written English (B2+ CEFR) and the ability to deliver clear, concise feedback and mentoring.

Nice to have

These are optional but helpful. They may make you more competitive for this role.

  • Exposure to LLM evaluation, RLHF pipelines, or data-labeling platforms (Labelbox, Scale AI).
  • Hands-on experience with supply-chain hygiene programs and advanced observability setups.
  • Previous mentoring or formal QA coaching experience.
