The Role
OpenTrain AI is seeking experienced Senior Software Engineers for a contractor project focused on training and evaluating next-generation AI systems. You will create challenging, reproducible environments that test AI models on real-world engineering work, including bug fixing, feature development, code refactoring, and performance optimization.
Previous AI experience is not required. This role is designed for experts whose software engineering knowledge, problem-solving ability, and technical judgment can help produce high-quality training and evaluation data.

What You'll Do
You will contribute expert-level code, technical reasoning, and evaluation materials across software engineering workflows. The work may involve creating reference solutions, analyzing difficult defects, and reviewing submissions for technical quality.
Develop expert-level code samples, debugging strategies, and engineering solutions
Work with Python, Java, Rust, Go, C++, and TypeScript
Analyze and resolve complex software defects and performance bottlenecks
Implement robust, scalable, and maintainable features
Refactor legacy codebases and improve code quality and efficiency
Create reproducible environments and high-quality reference solutions
Document technical reasoning, solution approaches, and implementation decisions
Review and validate technical submissions for accuracy, quality, and clarity
Complete computer code programming, evaluation rating, text generation, coding, and reasoning verification tasks
Requirements
This is an expert-level opportunity for software engineers with significant hands-on experience and strong technical judgment. Your engineering expertise matters more than prior work in AI.
Significant hands-on experience with Python, Java, Rust, Go, C++, or TypeScript
Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles
Proven ability to debug complex systems and resolve challenging technical issues
Experience with codebase refactoring, optimization, and legacy system modernization
Demonstrated ability to deliver high-impact features from development through completion
Strong technical documentation and communication skills
Experience with computer code programming labeling workflows
Software engineering and AI systems evaluation subject matter expertise
Fluent English proficiency and comfort working in English

Compensation ranges from $50 to $100 USD per hour, with an hourly rate of $75 listed for the opportunity.
