The Role
OpenTrain AI is hiring a Python Game Developer focused on Panda3D to design, develop, and optimize 3D simulations and environments used for AI training. This is a contract, part-time role (20+ hours/week) that is fully remote and worldwide.
You will work directly on Python and C++ codebases, maintain cross-platform compatibility, participate in code reviews, and document architecture and technical decisions to support collaborative development.

What You'll Do
Deliver production-ready 3D simulations and environment logic using Panda3D that support model training and evaluation. Ensure scenes and systems perform well across hardware profiles.
Maintain and improve mixed Python and C++ codebases, troubleshoot crashes and performance issues, and keep code cross-platform on Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Build and optimize Panda3D scenes, simulations, and game systems for AI training.
Debug, refactor, and extend Python and C++ code integrated with Panda3D.
Use GitHub workflows: branching, pull requests, and code review etiquette.
Document architecture, design decisions, and setup steps for team use.
Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and regular team syncs.
Requirements
Candidates must provide demonstrable, hands-on Panda3D development experience and strong programming ability in both Python and C++. You should be comfortable working independently in a remote setting and meeting agreed deadlines.
Clear written and verbal communication is essential for distributed collaboration; you will be expected to write clear technical notes and contribute to review processes.
Hands-on Panda3D development experience (required).
Advanced Python and C++ programming skills (required).
Solid understanding of 3D graphics pipelines, simulation logic, and cross-platform optimization.

Helpful Background
Experience building game systems or simulation environments intended for training or testing AI models is a strong advantage. Familiarity with asset optimization and ensuring stable performance across varied hardware will help you succeed.
