About this role
OpenTrain is recruiting for a Python backend engineering role supporting an AI agent infrastructure and training-data initiative. You will build and validate backend connectors that replicate familiar SaaS tools, or develop realistic long-horizon tasks and evaluation rubrics used to assess AI agent performance. The work combines software development, structured quality review, and practical model-evaluation data creation.

What you will do
- Build Python backend applications that reproduce the behavior of tools such as Slack, Linear, Jira, Notion, Gmail, and internal wikis
- Extend existing connectors and create new ones within agreed delivery timeframes
- Test connectors and verify that they behave faithfully like the systems they emulate
- Mine workflows and data to identify opportunities for realistic long-horizon task development
- Author tasks and conduct structured quality assurance for realism, correctness, and completeness
- Write evaluation rubrics that define correct, partially correct, and deficient work
- Use AI coding assistants during development, QA, and validation
- Participate in calibration and quality reviews while meeting agreed quality standards

Required skills
- At least three years of backend development experience
- Strong Python skills with FastAPI, Flask, or Django
- Experience building scalable backends, REST APIs, and microservices
- Working knowledge of Git, Docker, pipelines, testing, and code-quality practices
- Daily experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools
- Ability to make careful judgments about software behavior, task realism, correctness, and evaluation criteria

Helpful background
Experience designing integrations for SaaS applications, developing workflow-based software, or creating structured QA criteria can be useful for either track. Familiarity with AI agent development or evaluation is also relevant to the work.

Engagement details
This is a contractor engagement with pay of $300 per approved task. The engagement runs for four weeks and requires at least one completed and approved task per day, with additional tasks available while work remains in the pipeline.
