The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Python and full-stack JavaScript AI training developer to build and evaluate software used in AI model training and optimization. The role combines hands-on programming with response ranking, model evaluation, supervised fine-tuning dataset development, and reinforcement learning from human feedback.

You will apply technical judgment to assess model quality, document your reasoning, and refine outputs for clarity, relevance, accuracy, user alignment, and ethical standards. This is an entry-level opportunity requiring at least 20 hours per week, with work available worldwide.

What You'll Do

You will contribute across software development and AI evaluation workflows, collaborating with researchers and annotators to improve model performance and reward-model quality.

• Design, develop, and maintain efficient, reusable Python and JavaScript or TypeScript code.
• Build modular, scalable web applications with attention to readability, testing, security, and stability.
• Benchmark model performance, analyze evaluation results, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Evaluate and rank model responses to user queries using predefined criteria.
• Write clear explanations and rationales for response rankings and evaluation decisions.
• Create and maintain task-specific datasets for supervised fine-tuning.
• Support reinforcement learning from human feedback and reward-model refinement.
• Design evaluation strategies and create improved model responses.
• Review code and documentation for quality, security, and stability.

Required Skills and Background

Candidates should be able to communicate clearly in spoken and written English and produce clean, maintainable, well-organized, correctly annotated code. A bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or computer science, or equivalent experience, is expected.

The role is listed at entry level, while the technical requirements call for practical familiarity with full-stack development and AI evaluation workflows.

• Strong proficiency in Python and JavaScript or TypeScript, including JavaScript ES6 conventions.
• Experience developing modular and scalable web applications.
• Familiarity with Node.js or NestJS.
• Experience with at least one of React, Angular, or Vue.js.
• Knowledge of Docker.
• Understanding of software testing and technical quality practices.
• Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
