About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. OpenTrain AI is hiring contractors to help teach and evaluate advanced artificial intelligence systems through challenging, expert-led technical work.

  • Fully remote contractor opportunity
  • Flexible schedule with work available across selected countries
  • Free OpenTrain account and application process

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building modern artificial intelligence. People solve problems, create examples, review model outputs, and provide careful evaluations so AI systems can reason more accurately and produce reliable results.

In this project, your coding expertise will help test advanced AI models against algorithmic, debugging, and technical reasoning challenges. The work is part-time and flexible, making it possible to contribute around other commitments.

  • Work directly on challenges used to evaluate AI capabilities
  • Apply software development, algorithmic reasoning, and debugging skills
  • Help distinguish correct solutions from plausible but flawed AI outputs

The Coding Puzzle Solver Role

OpenTrain AI is looking for skilled coding puzzle solvers for an AI training project involving algorithmic reasoning, debugging, constrained technical problems, and reproducible software solutions.

You will solve self-contained coding and technical challenges designed to test advanced AI models. A typical task may involve exploring an unfamiliar codebase or terminal environment, understanding a precise objective, implementing and testing a solution, and delivering a reproducible final result that can be evaluated automatically.

  • Pay range listed: $50-$80 per hour
  • Contractor and part-time engagement
  • Expected commitment: less than 20 hours per week
  • Flexible hours and days, including weekends if desired
  • Expected project duration: under one month
  • Experts should be ready to begin immediately

What You’ll Do

You will work independently on technical problems where correctness, efficiency, clarity, and reproducibility matter. You will also review AI-generated work and identify whether it satisfies the stated requirements and constraints.

  • Solve self-contained coding, logic, debugging, and technical reasoning challenges
  • Translate unfamiliar requirements into implementable solutions
  • Select appropriate algorithms, data structures, and problem-solving strategies
  • Work in terminal-based development environments and existing codebases
  • Implement correct and efficient solutions in an appropriate programming language
  • Identify ambiguous requirements, edge cases, hidden assumptions, and failure conditions
  • Debug issues across code, tests, dependencies, and environment configuration
  • Develop tests and verification methods for evaluating solution correctness
  • Review AI-generated solutions for logic errors, incomplete reasoning, and constraint violations
  • Produce clear, reproducible solutions that can be executed and evaluated automatically
  • Explain reasoning, implementation decisions, and trade-offs clearly

Required Qualifications

This role requires strong algorithmic coding and AI model evaluation subject matter expertise. You should be comfortable solving technically ambiguous problems independently and communicating your reasoning clearly in English.

  • Strong algorithmic problem-solving ability
  • Proficiency in at least one general-purpose language, such as C++, Python, Java, Rust, Go, C#, JavaScript, or TypeScript
  • Strong understanding of common data structures and algorithms
  • Ability to reason about constraints, complexity, edge cases, and correctness
  • Experience debugging unfamiliar code or solving technically ambiguous problems
  • Ability to work independently in terminal-based development environments
  • Ability to produce reproducible, testable software solutions
  • Clear written and verbal technical communication
  • Fluent English proficiency
  • Comfort working in English
  • A public or otherwise verifiable Codeforces profile demonstrating meaningful competitive-programming experience is preferred but not required

Location and Availability

Applicants must be based in one of the following locations: United Kingdom, United States, Canada, India, British Indian Ocean Territory, United States Minor Outlying Islands, Australia, Austria, Central African Republic, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cuba, Czech, Denmark, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Fiji, Finland, France, Greece, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Sweden, or Zimbabwe.

Roles are typically filled within 48 hours. If selected, you will be expected to start your first task within 24-48 hours after completing onboarding.

  • Remote work from an eligible location
  • Expected weekly commitment is under 20 hours
  • Immediate-start availability is expected
  • Work may be scheduled on weekdays or weekends

Compensation Structure

The listed compensation range is $50-$80 per hour. Compensation is output-based, with experts paid per task that meets project specifications. The time required for each task may vary based on experience and workflow, and minimum submission requirements apply.

  • Listed range: $50-$80 per hour
  • Payment is based on completed tasks that meet project specifications
  • Task completion time may vary
  • Minimum submission requirements apply

Application and Selection Process

The selection process is designed to assess your coding ability, technical reasoning, and fit for the AI training project. Apply through OpenTrain and complete each stage if requested.

  • Apply to the role and complete the screening questions
  • Complete an approximately 30-minute AI interview
  • Complete a technical assessment, if required
