Why AI training matters for finance
AI training is the human side of building intelligent systems: experts prepare, evaluate, and refine the examples and tasks that shape how models perform. In finance, that work ensures models reason like practitioners—interpreting evidence, applying methods, and producing policy‑relevant analysis with professional rigor.
Work is remote and flexible—great for experienced practitioners who want project‑based, high‑impact contributions.
Specialist finance skills are highly valued and often command premium pay.
The role
OpenTrain is recruiting a Public Finance AI Evaluation Expert to join a focused Finance Sprint. You will evaluate whether individual finance workflows and tasks accurately reflect real professional practice, using your judgment to assess realism, clarity, scope, and internal consistency.
This is a short, high‑engagement contract (the sprint runs over the next week) with expected commitment of 20+ hours per week.
Employment type: Contractor, part‑time
Work location: Remote — worldwide (English required)
Duration: Short sprint (high engagement over the next week)
Schedule: ~20+ hours/week
What you'll do
Your day‑to‑day work is focused, evidence‑based review and clear written feedback to improve task quality and realism.
Review finance tasks and workflows for professional realism, clarity, scope, and internal consistency.
Assess whether inputs, context, and expected workflows match how work is actually performed in your domain.
Identify missing assumptions, ambiguous instructions, unsupported requirements, impractical constraints, and material edge cases.
Flag tasks that are too broad, too generic, or unlikely to produce meaningful signals of real finance capability.
Provide concise, structured written feedback and targeted recommendations to improve task realism.
Cross‑check task logic with trusted domain peers to maintain high quality across the sprint.
Requirements
Candidates must meet the experience and skill expectations described below. The project values strong quantitative reasoning, domain expertise, and clear written communication.
Experience: Practitioner track 5–12 years, Senior reviewer track 10–18 years in relevant roles (public‑sector finance, municipal credit, public pensions, fiscal policy, applied economics, or empirical finance).
Quant skills: Strong quantitative reasoning and fluency with financial or econometric analysis.
Judgment: Ability to assess evidence quality, methodological choices, causal claims, and policy interpretations.
Communication: Excellent written communication; able to explain not only whether something is correct, but why.
Quality control: High attention to detail, sound professional judgment, and comfort evaluating work against explicit standards.
Valuable: Experience reviewing analysts, approving work, designing controls, or setting quality standards (especially for senior track).
Who should apply
Apply if you have solid public‑finance or applied economics experience and enjoy turning practitioner knowledge into crisp, actionable feedback. We welcome experienced practitioners who want short, focused, high‑impact contract work shaping how finance tasks are used to train AI.
You are comfortable with text‑based review and structured rating tasks.
You can commit to 20+ hours/week during a one‑week sprint and respond promptly to high‑engagement review cycles.
You are fluent in English and able to write clear, professional feedback.
