About OpenTrain OpenTrain is the centralized, open platform where AI training and data-labeling freelancers find work, consolidate opportunities across platforms, and build a unified AI training portfolio they control. We make specialized AI training work easier to track, apply for, and grow into a durable freelance career.
About this role OpenTrain is recruiting PhD-level scientists who are proficient in Portuguese and English to help improve the safety of advanced AI models. You will use your scientific expertise to evaluate how models handle specialized technical topics in Portuguese. No prior AI or machine learning experience is required.
What you will do You will write expert-level prompts in Portuguese across specialized scientific topics. You will evaluate and annotate model responses for scientific accuracy, helpfulness, and appropriate handling of sensitive or dual-use content. You will also apply structured guidelines to classify prompts and conversations and identify inaccurate, unsafe, or insufficiently helpful responses.
Required skills You should have an ongoing or completed PhD in chemistry, biology, or a closely related field, with deep knowledge of a specific scientific subfield and familiarity with modern laboratory or computational techniques. Native or near-native Portuguese and business-level written English are required, along with sound judgment concerning scientific safety and the responsible handling of dual-use information.
Helpful background Experience with radiochemistry, nuclear chemistry, energetic materials, radiation physics, organic or inorganic synthesis, molecular biology, microbiology, virology, or genetics is welcome. Research or coursework involving chemical safety, biosafety, biosecurity, or hazardous-materials handling is helpful. Experience reviewing, grading, or red-teaming technical content is also valued.
Schedule and pay This is remote contract work with an expected commitment of approximately 7 hours per week. The pay rate is $50 to $54 per hour. Applicants based anywhere may be considered, with Portugal and Western Europe preferred.
