The Role
OpenTrain AI is seeking a Physics Expert specializing in atomic, molecular, and optical physics, with a focus on the optical properties of materials. You will provide expert input for AI training through adaptive spoken interviews and related audio labeling, question-answering, evaluation, and text-generation workflows.
The engagement is part-time and fully remote, with candidates welcomed worldwide. The expected commitment is 5 to 10 or more hours per week while remaining under 20 hours per week overall. The project is expected to run for 1 to 3 months.

What You’ll Do
You will participate in adaptive, spoken AI interviews by responding to one question at a time. Your answers should be clear, concrete, and grounded in legally shareable research or project experience.
The work combines advanced physics subject-matter expertise with structured AI evaluation and content-generation tasks.
Provide expert insights on AMO physics and optical properties of materials
Review and discuss ab initio configuration interaction methods for calculating polarizability in atomic systems
Analyze atomic-structure calculations involving Yb-171 and Yb-174 isotopes
Identify and distinguish sigma and pi transitions in relevant atomic spectra
Explain the physical principles underlying sigma versus pi transitions
Complete audio labeling, question-answering, evaluation-rating, and text-generation workflows
Communicate scientific reasoning clearly in spoken and written formats
Requirements and Preferred Qualifications
This is an expert-level opportunity for a physicist with substantial knowledge of AMO physics, optical properties of materials, and atomic-structure computation. An advanced degree is preferred, though equivalent experience may also be considered.
You must be fluent and comfortable working in English. Prior AI-training experience is not required, but experience with audio labeling workflows and AI-oriented question answering or evaluation is relevant to the project.
Advanced degree, such as an MS or PhD, in Physics, or equivalent experience
Focus on AMO physics or optical properties of materials
Experience with ab initio quantum chemistry calculations
Specific experience using configuration interaction approaches to calculate polarizability
Deep understanding of atomic-structure computation techniques for Yb-171 and Yb-174
Ability to identify and explain sigma versus pi transitions in atomic contexts
