Pathology Superresolution Evaluation (Pathologist)
Licensed pathologists (MD/DO) are needed to evaluate super-resolution algorithms by comparing pairs of whole-slide images and answering targeted quality questions. Remote, part-time contractor work under 20 hrs/week with pay in the $100–$200/hr range (typical $150/hr).

About OpenTrain
OpenTrain is the #1 platform for building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect skilled contributors with projects that shape how modern AI systems learn, offering flexible, remote work and a clear pathway to more AI-focused roles.
Why AI Training in Pathology Matters
AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human side of AI development: pathologists and other experts review examples that teach models to interpret tissue images accurately. Your evaluations directly influence algorithm quality used in research and clinical tools.
- Work remotely, on your schedule, contributing domain expertise to cutting-edge AI models.
- Many projects require no prior ML experience — subject-matter expertise (pathology) is the key value here.
The Role
You will evaluate pathology super-resolution algorithms by comparing pairs of whole-slide images (WSIs) and answering structured questions about which image is super-resolved, which looks better, and related quality judgments. The task focuses on perceptual and diagnostic image quality rather than generating labels for individual features.
- Data type: IMAGE (whole-slide images).
- Label types: EVALUATION_RATING — comparative and quality judgments.
- Tooling: work in internal proprietary annotation tooling provided by the project.
What You'll Do
Perform side-by-side reviews of two WSIs and complete brief rating and comparison questionnaires. Each assignment asks you to identify the super-resolved image, indicate which image appears diagnostically superior, and provide structured ratings per task guidelines.
- Compare image pairs and select which appears super-resolved.
- Rate image quality and diagnostic usefulness using structured scales.
- Follow provided guidelines to ensure consistent, reproducible evaluations.
Requirements
This project requires clinical expertise in pathology and the ability to communicate quality judgments in English. Maintain professional judgment and follow the study instructions closely.
- A licensed pathologist credential: MD or DO required.
- Conversational English proficiency to understand instructions and complete evaluations.
- Entry-level experience is acceptable, but clinical pathology training and licensing are mandatory.
Time, Pay, and Employment Details
This is a part-time contractor role with flexible hours. The project expects less than 20 hours per week, and contributors can work from anywhere worldwide.
- Employment type: Contractor, Part-time.
- Payment: Hourly (USD) — typical rate $150/hr; acceptable range $100–$200/hr.
- Work is remote and open to qualified candidates worldwide.
How It Works / Next Steps
If you meet the requirements, you will be onboarded to the project's internal tooling, receive task-specific instructions and examples, and begin completing evaluation batches. Quality checks and clear guidelines help keep ratings consistent.
- Apply with proof of licensure (MD/DO) and brief confirmation of English proficiency.
- Complete a short qualification or calibration set to confirm understanding of guidelines.
- Once approved, pick up evaluation batches and submit ratings through the proprietary tool.
