About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect skilled contributors with real projects that teach AI systems how to understand medical images, language, audio, and more.

This role is offered by OpenTrain AI and is part of a fast-growing field where human experts prepare and verify the examples AI systems learn from. Creating an OpenTrain account is free.

About AI Training Work

AI training (also called data labeling or annotation) is the human side of building intelligent systems. Contributors help shape model behavior by producing careful, repeatable annotations that become training and evaluation data.

Many participants choose this work for flexible schedules, remote-friendly arrangements, and the chance to contribute directly to cutting-edge AI systems.

  • Flexible, project-based work that often fits around other commitments.
  • Work directly influences the performance of medical imaging models.

The Role

Title: Biomedical Image Segmentation Engineer — CT (lower limb). You will perform high-quality segmentation of DICOM/CT scans focused on bony anatomy of the lower limb, typically one leg per case.

Work is delivered on demand (cases provided one-by-one). Each received case must be completed and returned within 24 hours according to provided specifications and quality procedures.

  • Segmentation targets: bony structures of the lower limb (per supplied spec).
  • Scope: rough segmentation across the full CT plus higher-accuracy segmentation on a focused Z-range of about 50–150 mm (≈50–150 slices).
  • Deliverables: segmentation masks and anatomical 3D models plus completed quality checks.

What You'll Do

Follow the project's annotation specifications and use the provided internal tooling to create segmentations and 3D anatomical models from DICOM/CT input. Perform systematic quality checks before submission.

  • Load DICOM/CT volumes and perform bone segmentation for the assigned leg.
  • Produce a rough global segmentation and higher-accuracy segmentation for the specified Z-range (50–150 mm).
  • Generate anatomical 3D models from the approved segmentations.
  • Complete quality-control steps and follow established procedures on every case.
  • Return each completed case within 24 hours of receipt.

Requirements

This is an intermediate-level role; candidates must have hands-on experience segmenting CT scans of bony anatomy. Lower-leg-specific experience is a strong plus but not strictly required.

Because the data are DICOM CT volumes and the output includes 3D anatomical models, familiarity with DICOM workflows and medical-image segmentation tools is expected. You will use internal proprietary tooling provided by OpenTrain AI.

  • Proven experience in CT scan segmentation of bony structures (required).
  • Lower-leg CT segmentation experience is a plus.
  • Intermediate-level experience with medical image segmentation and DICOM data.
  • Ability to follow detailed annotation and QC procedures and meet a 24-hour turnaround.
  • Available to work as a contractor under OpenTrain AI terms.
  • Eligible countries: Colombia (CO), Mexico (MX), India (IN), Costa Rica (CR), Argentina (AR).

Compensation & Logistics

Compensation is hourly, paid in USD. The listed rate is $10/hour with an allowable range of $5–$15/hour depending on location and experience. Employment type: contractor.

Data type: medical DICOM CT. Label type: segmentation. Annotation will be completed using internal proprietary tooling supplied by OpenTrain AI.

  • Payment type: Pay per hour (USD). Typical listed rate: $10/hr (range $5–$15/hr).
  • Labeling software: internal proprietary tooling (provided).
  • Data: MEDICAL_DICOM (CT). Label type: SEGMENTATION.
  • Employment: Contractor, on-demand one-by-one cases, 24-hour turnaround per case.

How to Apply

Create a free OpenTrain account, complete your profile, and apply to this role with details about your CT segmentation experience. Include examples or a brief description of past work with CT bone segmentation when possible.

Selected contractors will be invited to receive on-demand cases. We will provide project specifications, QC procedures, and access to the internal tooling once you are approved.

  • Apply via your OpenTrain profile and list relevant experience working with CT bone segmentation.
  • Provide examples of prior segmentation work or a short summary of tools and workflows you use.
  • If approved, you'll receive instructions and access to the project's internal tooling to begin receiving cases.
