About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. OpenTrain AI is hiring and contracting contributors for specialized work that helps improve how modern AI systems understand and produce useful content.

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts review model outputs, compare responses, create high-quality examples, and identify errors so AI systems become more accurate, reliable, and useful in real-world settings.

This role applies those methods to legal support. Your judgment will help improve AI performance in areas such as legal reasoning, procedural accuracy, drafting, issue spotting, document structure, and citation handling.

  • Remote work using a computer and internet connection
  • Flexible contractor work with a 20+ hour weekly commitment
  • Directly contribute to the development of legal AI systems
  • Use professional legal support knowledge in cutting-edge AI training

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Paralegal AI Evaluation Subject Matter Expert to review AI-generated legal support responses, create expert paralegal content, and assess the quality of legal reasoning and procedural work. You will evaluate whether outputs are accurate, complete, clear, properly formatted, and responsive to the prompt.

The structured listing classifies this opportunity as entry level, while the role requirements call for 4+ years of professional experience as a paralegal or legal assistant. The engagement is part-time contractor work for contributors able to work 20+ hours per week.

  • Pay: $20-$50 USD per hour
  • Employment type: Contractor and part time
  • Data type: Text
  • Language: English, C1 proficiency
  • Work arrangement: Remote contractor workflow across time zones

What You’ll Do

You will combine legal support expertise with careful evaluation and content creation. The work includes reviewing individual responses, comparing alternative outputs, creating reference materials, and testing models for risks that could reduce trust in legal support applications.

  • Review AI-generated legal support responses for accuracy, completeness, clarity, and prompt adherence
  • Identify errors in legal terminology, procedural steps, document structure, issue spotting, and citation or authority handling
  • Create expert paralegal content, including detailed prompts, document templates, checklists, research summaries, and drafting examples
  • Rate and compare multiple AI responses based on correctness, reasoning quality, formatting, and procedural usefulness
  • Test AI outputs for misleading certainty, confidentiality risks, and bias across legal support use cases
  • Conduct legal research on unfamiliar issues and prepare concise authority summaries
  • Perform accurate legal drafting and revision under deadlines
  • Complete careful cite-checking while maintaining confidentiality awareness and attention to detail

Requirements

Successful contributors should understand professional legal support workflows and be comfortable evaluating detailed written work. The role requires an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field, with paralegal certification welcomed as an additional qualification.

  • 4+ years of professional experience as a paralegal or legal assistant
  • Strong command of intake, fact gathering, drafting, version control, and matter organization
  • Proven legal research ability and experience summarizing cases, statutes, and regulations
  • Familiarity with litigation processes or transactional workflows, depending on your area of experience
  • C1 English proficiency
  • Strong attention to detail and confidentiality awareness
  • Comfort working in remote contractor workflows across time zones

Helpful Background

Additional experience can help you contribute across a wider range of legal support evaluation tasks. Relevant backgrounds include AI data training, document quality assurance, legal operations, and editorial review.

  • E-discovery experience
  • Contracts experience
  • Court filing experience
  • Litigation support experience
  • Prior AI data training or document QA work
  • Legal operations or editorial review experience

Who Should Apply

This opportunity may suit experienced paralegals and legal assistants who enjoy precise written analysis and want to help shape the behavior of AI systems. It is especially relevant for professionals who can move comfortably between legal research, drafting, procedural review, and detailed quality assessment.

Applicants should be prepared to evaluate unfamiliar legal issues carefully, distinguish strong reasoning from confident but misleading output, and produce clear paralegal materials that can serve as reliable examples for AI training.

  • Paralegals with litigation or transactional support experience
  • Legal assistants with strong research and drafting skills
  • Professionals experienced in cite-checking and authority summaries
  • Legal operations or document review specialists interested in AI training
  • Contributors who can commit to at least 20 hours per week
