The Music Instrument Audio Evaluator Role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Music Instrument Audio Evaluator to assess AI-generated audio clips. You will listen to short musical snippets and classify them by instrument family and specific instrument while following detailed annotation guidelines.

This is a fully remote, fixed-price contractor project with flexible hours across a two-day project window. The project requires 20 or more hours per week during that window and pays $150-$160 for completing the full project in USD.

What You Will Do

You will make consistent audio classifications using provided references and project instructions. Accuracy, focus, and reliable independent work are important because each evaluation contributes to the quality of AI audio models.

• Listen to short audio clips featuring musical instruments
• Identify the instrument family, such as strings, brass, woodwind, percussion, or keyboard
• Identify the specific instrument you hear
• Use provided audio references to guide classification decisions
• Follow annotation guidelines and deliver consistent, accurate work
• Complete all assigned tasks within the two-day project window

Required Qualifications

This role is designed for candidates with formal music education and practical experience in music or audio. You should be comfortable making careful distinctions between instruments by sound and completing focused, repetitive listening tasks independently.

• Bachelor's degree in Music or a related field
• At least three years of relevant experience in music performance, music production, audio engineering, or similar work
• A trained ear and strong ability to recognize instruments by sound
• Strong English communication skills
• Comfort with repetitive listening and annotation tasks
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting

Helpful Background and Future Opportunities

Experience with transcription, remixing, music information retrieval, or AI and data annotation can be helpful. Strong performers may be offered extension opportunities after the initial project.
