The Role
OpenTrain is seeking a Military Writing and Reporting AI Training Specialist to transform practical military and federal documentation expertise into realistic training examples, evaluation criteria, and detailed model feedback. You will work with authentic reporting structures, terminology, and procedural expectations to improve AI-generated government communication.
This is a U.S.-based contractor opportunity classified as entry level in the project information, although applicants must have at least three years of relevant U.S. Department of Defense experience. The expected time commitment is 20 or more hours per week, and prior AI training experience is not required.

What You’ll Do
You will create, review, and explain military and federal reporting practices for AI training. The work combines document creation, rubric development, model evaluation, and precise written or verbal feedback.
Create realistic military and federal status reports, summaries, and executive updates from prompts and supplied artifacts
Develop reference responses that demonstrate effective, compliant, standards-aligned reporting
Draft grading rubrics and evaluation guidelines based on military and federal writing practices
Review AI-generated reports and provide detailed written and verbal feedback
Explain stylistic differences and reporting approaches across WARs, SITREPs, AARs, executive summaries, and related documents
Produce decision briefs, memoranda, action officer updates, and other supporting materials when needed
Collaborate with other subject matter experts to preserve reporting diversity and branch-specific terminology
Required Qualifications
Applicants should bring demonstrated experience producing military or federal documentation in a U.S. Department of Defense environment. Strong written and verbal communication is essential because the work involves technical and operational subject matter, document evaluation, and precise explanations of reporting standards.
At least three years of relevant experience as a U.S. Department of Defense professional, including military service or DoD civilian work
Experience producing military or federal reports, status reports, executive summaries, memoranda, or comparable government documents
Ability to create, grade, and review military or federal documents, presentations, memoranda, and spreadsheets
Ability to develop grading rubrics and evaluate AI-generated reports against federal and military writing standards
Familiarity with federal documentation standards and compliance best practices
Strong written communication for technical or operational subject matter
Ability to provide precise feedback on procedural reporting tasks while working remotely
Helpful Experience
Experience across different military branches, DoD organizations, or functional areas can help you recognize variations in reporting style and terminology. Familiarity with the document types below is valuable, but prior AI training experience is not required.
