The Role
OpenTrain AI is seeking a Federal Reporting and Staff Writing AI Training Expert to create and assess high-quality written materials used in AI training. You will apply federal and military reporting expertise to produce authentic reports, reference responses, and evaluation guidance.
The work focuses on clarity, accuracy, tone, compliance, formatting, and alignment with established federal and military reporting practices. This is a part-time contractor opportunity for candidates located in the United States who can commit to 20 or more hours per week.

What You'll Do
You will contribute professional judgment to writing, reviewing, and evaluating AI training content related to federal reporting and staff work. Your feedback will help improve both the quality of generated materials and the criteria used to assess them.
Create, review, and refine Weekly Action Reports, Monthly Activity Reports, Situation Reports, after-action summaries, executive briefings, and related federal reporting artifacts.
Write clear responses and summaries that reflect federal and military reporting conventions.
Evaluate sample submissions for accuracy, clarity, compliance, tone, formatting, and adherence to reporting practices.
Contribute input artifacts and reference responses for status, activity, and compliance reporting tasks.
Help develop task guidance, criteria, and evaluative rubrics for federal report generation and staff writing.
Consult on task design and provide precise feedback to improve deliverable quality.
Required Qualifications
This opportunity requires substantial professional experience despite the project being listed at an entry-level experience classification. You should be able to explain reporting methodology clearly and make consistent, well-supported decisions when reviewing written work.
At least three years of U.S. Department of Defense federal reporting or staff writing experience, or comparable federal professional experience.
Experience producing templated reports such as WARs, MARs, SITREPs, after-action reports, and executive summaries.
Knowledge of federal and military reporting conventions, compliance standards, and official writing tone.
Ability to evaluate report quality and explain decisions using clear grading criteria.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with close attention to clarity and tone.
Proficiency creating official reports, memoranda, and presentations with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Helpful Background
Experience across multiple military branches, functional areas, or federal reporting environments is valuable. A record of handling reports confidentially and in compliance with federal or military expectations is also relevant to this work.
A background with one or more U.S. military branches or Department of Defense organizations can be helpful, particularly when paired with hands-on experience creating and reviewing official reporting materials.
