The Role
As a Mechanical Design and CAD Expert, you will evaluate and solve advanced mechanical design and computer-aided design problems. You will assess AI-generated technical responses for correctness, accuracy, and engineering quality while applying practical judgment to production design scenarios and theoretical questions.
This is an expert-level contractor role for professionals with substantial production design experience. The work focuses on mechanical engineering, parametric CAD, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturing and assembly.

What You’ll Do
You will contribute both technical solutions and structured feedback that helps AI systems reason more effectively about mechanical design and CAD. Clear written and verbal communication will be important when documenting assessments and explaining engineering decisions.
Evaluate and solve advanced part and assembly design problems
Review AI-generated technical responses for technical correctness, accuracy, and engineering quality
Analyze tolerance stack-ups and apply GD&T according to ASME Y14.5
Troubleshoot production design problems using industry-standard methods
Review designs for design-for-manufacturability and design-for-assembly considerations
Apply engineering judgment to real-world production scenarios and theoretical questions
Contribute mechanical design expertise to improve AI reasoning and model performance
Document feedback and provide clear written and verbal explanations
Collaborate remotely with distributed experts and project participants
Required and Preferred Qualifications
The preferred background is a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, or Industrial Design, together with at least five years of production design experience. You should have personally owned designs through GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, DFM review, drawing release, and production release.
The role requires professional fluency in English and exceptional written and verbal communication. Experience with the listed CAD, PLM, PDM, or manufacturing tools is beneficial but not required where identified as a plus.
BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, or Industrial Design preferred
At least five years in production design roles preferred
Expert knowledge of parametric CAD modeling
Expert knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5
Expert knowledge of tolerance stack-up analysis
Expert knowledge of design-for-manufacturability and design-for-assembly principles
Ability to take designs from concept through detail drawings, ECR or ECN, and production release
Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 and ASME B89 dimensional metrology standards
Understanding of machining, sheet metal, injection molding, and casting constraints
Professional or fluent English proficiency
SolidWorks, Creo, NX, CATIA, Inventor, PLM, PDM, or CAM/CNC experience is a plus
CSWP or CSWE certification is a plus
Problem-Authoring and Leadership Experience
The project strongly prefers evidence of rigorous problem authoring, technical leadership, or recognized engineering contribution. Relevant examples may come from academic, professional, competition, standards, or fellowship experience.
Service on an olympiad problem committee
Author credit for a textbook problem set or solutions manual
Item-writer role on an NCEES or academic qualifying-exam committee
Service on an ASME Y14.5, ASME B89, or related standards committee
Top placement or team-lead role in Formula SAE or Formula Student
Participation in ASME Student Design Competition, HPVC, MATE ROV, or a DARPA challenge
