The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Mathematical AI Systems Engineer to design and deploy multi-step agentic workflows for advanced mathematical reasoning. This expert-level contractor assignment combines mathematical research with technical execution.

You will build reusable frameworks, tools, and memory systems for STEM-focused AI agents. The work requires production experience with agentic systems, advanced Python, LLM orchestration, and the ability to turn abstract proofs and dense academic material into modular software systems.

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, and optimize multi-step agentic workflows for scientific and mathematical tasks
  • Translate abstract mathematical proofs into structured technical specifications and automated pipelines
  • Develop reusable orchestration frameworks, tools, and memory systems for STEM-focused agents
  • Evaluate agent outputs and execution traces to improve accuracy, reliability, and validation quality
  • Collaborate with mathematical researchers and convert dense academic material into modular software systems
  • Assess hypothesis generation, agent accuracy, execution reliability, and trace logic across workflow steps

Required Qualifications

This role requires strong technical judgment and the ability to connect abstract mathematical reasoning with production software systems. Candidates should be comfortable designing reliable workflows that combine language models, tools, structured outputs, and state management.

  • Production experience architecting and deploying multi-step agentic systems
  • Advanced Python proficiency, including LLM orchestration, structured outputs, tool integration, and state management
  • Ability to translate abstract mathematical proofs and dense academic material into modular software systems
  • Experience building AI or machine learning applications in mathematics, physics, computer science, or quantitative finance
  • Ability to evaluate agent accuracy, reliability, hypothesis generation, and execution traces
  • Strong ability to reason about abstract proofs and translate them into implementable technical systems

Helpful Background

  • Experience with LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, or comparable custom orchestration frameworks
