About AI training and why this work matters
AI training (data labeling, annotation, or human feedback) is the human side of building AI: people prepare, review, and rate examples that teach models how to read, write, translate, and follow instructions.
This work is flexible, remote, and accessible—contributors directly shape how state-of-the-art systems behave while working on part-time schedules that fit around other commitments.
Role overview
We are hiring a Maltese Quality Assurance Lead to oversee quality and consistency across Maltese-language AI training projects. This remote contractor role focuses on reviewing AI-generated Maltese content and trainer/QAs' work, evaluating outputs against project rubrics, and providing precise written feedback.
You will maintain and improve language guidance, support onboarding, keep documentation and trackers current, and help activate contributors who are not working consistently.
What you'll do day-to-day
Review Maltese-language items and trainer/QA submissions for accuracy, fluency, grammar, spelling, diacritics, tone, and cultural appropriateness.
Evaluate translation fidelity, instruction-following, formatting, and overall meaning preservation using project rubrics.
Write clear, structured feedback to help contributors improve and resolve questions about wording, register, and code-switching.
Maintain and update style guides, FAQs, examples, honeypots, trackers, and other documentation.
Communicate quality updates and expectations to trainers and QAs and support onboarding calls and training sessions.
Spot recurring issues, suggest workflow improvements, and help scale QA processes.
Required qualifications
Native or near-native Maltese reading and writing ability with strong command of grammar, diacritics, punctuation, and register.
Strong English communication for documenting guidelines and coordinating with the team.
Experience reviewing Maltese writing, editing, translation, localization, content QA, or related language-review workflows.
Ability to evaluate content against detailed rubrics and provide structured, actionable feedback.
Experience leading or supporting remote teams of trainers, reviewers, editors, or QAs.
Comfortable using Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, or project management tools.
Located in Malta (applicants must be based in MT).
Helpful (but not required) background
Degree in Maltese, Linguistics, Translation, Communications, Journalism, Education, or a related field.
Prior experience with AI training, annotation, RLHF, or rubric-based LLM evaluation.
Familiarity creating style guides, onboarding materials, and quality-tracking systems.
Logistics, pay, and commitment
Position type: Contractor, part-time. Time requirement: 20+ hours per week. Work is fully remote but focused on Maltese-language projects.
Pay: $45 USD per hour. Work involves text-based evaluation and RLHF-style rating tasks (EVALUATION_RATING, RLHF).
Data type: TEXT. Labeling/assessment types include evaluation ratings and RLHF.
Employment types: CONTRACTOR, PART_TIME.
Who should apply and how it works
This role fits detail-oriented language professionals who enjoy close review work, clear written communication, and building repeatable quality systems for remote teams.
