The Role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Maltese Language AI Training Expert to review AI-generated Maltese content and create high-quality reference material for model training. You will assess language quality, fact-check claims, write rewrites and model answers, and compare multiple AI responses.

The work covers a range of content, including general knowledge, customer support, education, conversational writing, translation, localization, and culturally sensitive topics.

What You'll Do

• Review AI-generated Maltese content and create gold-standard reference content.
• Evaluate step-by-step reasoning and adherence to prompts.
• Assess accuracy, fluency, grammar, spelling, tone, cultural appropriateness, and register consistency.
• Identify errors in meaning, mistranslation, unnatural phrasing, terminology, and logical consistency.
• Fact-check claims and write high-quality rewrites and model answers.
• Rate and compare multiple AI responses based on correctness and overall quality.
• Create prompts and high-quality Maltese answers across general knowledge, customer support, education, conversational writing, translation, localization, and culturally sensitive content.
• Detect unsafe or misleading content, factual hallucinations, bias, and policy-risk language.

Required Qualifications

You should bring advanced Maltese language expertise, strong English communication skills, and professional experience in language-focused work. Equivalent professional experience may be considered where the requirements allow it.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Linguistics, Maltese Language, Maltese Literature, English Literature, Communications, Journalism, Translation, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Native or near-native Maltese proficiency with strong reading and writing skills.
• Strong professional English proficiency at a minimum C1 level for following guidelines and providing detailed feedback.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in writing, editing, localization, translation, content quality assurance, journalism, education, or related language-focused work.
• Deep understanding of Maltese grammar, spelling conventions, punctuation, Semitic roots, verb forms, articles, prepositions, tone, and style.
• Comfort working across formal, neutral, conversational, professional, educational, and public-facing Maltese registers.
• High attention to detail, especially when identifying subtle meaning shifts, awkward translations, and unnatural phrasing.
• Reliable, self-directed, and able to deliver consistent quality in a remote workflow across time zones.

Helpful Background

Experience with AI data training or annotation is helpful, but this role also values related language-quality experience that demonstrates careful, rubric-based judgment.
